CHS Band and Choir Ensembles Win Big in Bay Area
The Carson High School Band and Choir Ensembles earned big awards in Bay Area competitions earlier this month. The ensembles will be recognized at the Carson City School District board meeting, Tuesday, April 23 at Carson High School Senator Square; 7 p.m.
Four Ensembles from the Carson High School music program traveled to the Bay Area April 5-7 to compete at a Heritage Festival. There were over 30 ensembles representing 15 different schools from California, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Montana, and British Columbia. Each group prepared approximately 20 minutes of advanced literature for performance and competition.
We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our ensembles and soloists and are grateful for the excellent leadership of our Directors, Jarod Sorum, Director of Bands and Orchestra, and Andy Sonnemaker, Director of Choir Programs. As you can see, they also earned the Grand Sweepstakes Award for Most Outstanding Music Program. Congratulations!

These accolades are huge, but they do not measure the sense of pride we felt in our performances. All groups did exceptionally well. We had judges--College band, choir, and orchestra directors--from all over the west show great interest in wanting to recruit students from Carson High to attend their Universities in the future, and contribute to their fine ensembles. I have included a picture of the students after the awards ceremony. If you get a chance, please congratulate the students on their exceptional representation and performance as ambassadors of this fine district, school, and performing arts program. They are awesome!
Several of these same students are traveling this week to Las Vegas to perform in the Nevada All-State Competitions. They, too will be honored at the April 23rd School Board Meeting at Carson High. The band and choir will each perform a short piece in addition to the Star Spangled Banner.
