The Carson City Host Lions is pleased to announce the 23rd annual community Crab Feed will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Fuji Park Hall.

The Lions, with the help of Celebrity Chef Jonathan Chapin and his team, will serve up Dungeness crab, roasted beef tri-tip, salad, bread, and ice cream. There will be music, dancing, raffle prizes and a silent auction to raise funds for Lions' projects.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. The Carson High School Band Department, led by William J. Zabelsky, is pleased to present its winter concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the Carson City Community Center.

Carson Middle School Band program's annual Chili Bingo Night happens this Friday, Nov. 22, in the school's gym, 1140 West King Street.

Art and flowers made the perfect blend on Saturday during the 16th annual Greenhouse Garden Art Fest in Carson City.

Dozens of vendors sold different forms of art to capture the eyes of attendees while the lush greens, plants and flowers in the Greenhouse served as a comforting background.

The Carson City Band Association will host its third annual night of music, food, and fun to raise funds for Carson High School band programs. Guests will be treated with an intimate evening of performances from talented musicians from Carson High and the community.

Both Carson High School Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands achieved superior ratings, the highest possible rating.

Twelve bands from Churchill, Douglas, Fernley and Dayton competed in the Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association High School Band Festival at the Carson City Community Center on March 7, 2019.

Carson High School band students were awarded a check for $8,000 from Capital Ford in Carson City Friday night following a successful Drive 4UR School fundraiser held Sept. 15 from which students were able to raise the maximum amount, said Capital Ford Internet and Customer Relations Manager Heidi Aiazzi.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Under snowy skies, representatives from Greater Nevada Credit Union joined Carson High School staff in a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning in Carson City to recognize a new digital marquee that was made possible through a donation from GNCU.

Carson City School District and Carson High School are pleased to announce the replacement of the digital marquee out front of Carson High School. Greater Nevada Credit Union has donated nearly $25,000 to replace the existing sign.

I really can’t keep up with the changing weather reports around here. I think we are expecting snow, so you’ll want to be ready for anything. Our County Clerk’s office is holding an open house to show off the new voting machines we’ll be using for this year’s elections.

The weekend is almost here, bringing with it early Halloween parties, the Advocates to End Domestic Violence ‘Light up the Dark’ Run/walk, and even more fun at the Nevada Railroad Museum. For now, you may as well enjoy the day we’ve been given.

Attention musicians! The Carson City Symphony will begin rehearsals for the 2017-18 concert season on Wednesday, August 30, 7 to 9:15 p.m., at the Carson High School band room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

The valley is alive with the sound of music: the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, to be specific. Just about everywhere you go, you’ll be treated to something to soothe the soul or get the toes tapping. Get the kids up early for the Young Eagle Flights at the Carson City Airport – they’re free, but you need to be on time for registration. Keep reading and you’ll find a number of ways to enjoy this sunny summer weekend.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The Carson Airport Fly-In and Open House has plenty of aeronautic fun in store. You’ll have to keep reading for all of the fun options in Carson City and the surrounding valleys.

The Carson City Band Association, Inc. (CCBAI) will host a car wash fundraiser, this Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Grocery Outlet parking lot, 1831 North Carson Street. Come get your car washed and support Carson High School band students. $5 suggested donation. All proceeds will go directly to support band programs at Carson High School.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. The Annual Cops and Kids Open House at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department is a family favorite with free food, activities, and games. Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. Attention musicians: The Carson City Symphony will begin rehearsals for the 2016-17 concert season on Wednesday, August 31, 7:00 to 9:15 p.m., at the Carson High School band room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

The Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, is a volunteer orchestra of about 60 players who perform music from the 15th to 21st centuries. It is open to string players at any time without audition, and to other instrumentalists when positions are available.

Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Take a gander at the whole list, there is plenty of stuff to do in the Carson City area this weekend.

The Carson City Band Association, Inc. is proud to host its 12th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser. All proceeds raised at this event will benefit the Carson High School Band programs. Your support helps these vital programs remain strong for our future musicians.

Students in these programs gain more than a finer appreciation of music. They also learn teamwork, discipline, confidence and leadership. This years' Wine Tasting will be held Saturday, April 25, at the Empire Ranch Golf Club on Fairway off Highway 50 East beginning at 5 p.m.

A bit of Americana now and then to remind us all of the great country in which we live is always appropriate and welcome. Mayor Robert Crowell, representing the City of Carson City, and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce is collaborating to bring the United States Air Force Band of Washington D.C. to the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center for a free concert on Wednesday evening March 4 at 7 p.m.

Music isn’t just for the weekends in Carson City. Dave Leather will sing you the blues at Comma Coffee during your lunch hour and you will find live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant and at Living the Good Life Bistro and Nightclub in the evening. Take a look at the new art hanging up at Comma Coffee as they host their monthly Backseat Gallery Artist Reception.
