Stewart Father's Day Powwow in Carson City
The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow Committee in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Stewart Alumni will host the 2010 Stewart Father’s Day Powwow at the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Stewart Campus, 5500 Snyder Avenue. This annual powwow draws a number of quality American Indian artisans, and is also a time for alumni, former employees and their families and friends to gather at the former campus. Additionally, this fundraising event is part of an effort to establish the Stewart Indian Cultural Center to preserve the history and memorabilia of the former school. There will be competition dancing, American Indian jewelry, arts and craft vendors, Native food, drum groups, raffle and an alumni reception. It is the Committee’s hope that this event will give the community a sample of American Indian heritage, history and pride. Grand entry times are 7 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday. All are invited and welcome to attend this free event. For information, call Sherry Rupert or Chris Ann Gibbons at (775) 687-8333 or e-mail at cgibbons@nic.nv.gov.
