Nevada tribal leaders share concern, not informed over plutonium shipment

Not too many years after Rupert’s appointment, plans began forming to develop a cultural center and museum on the campus of the Stewart Indian School, just a few miles south of Carson City, and AB44 is a part of the ongoing effort to bring that vision to reality.

Rupert — whose husband’s great-grandfather, Henry Moses Rupert, was the first American Indian grand marshal — will be the first female American Indian to marshal the 77th annual parade Saturday, 10 a.m. in downtown Carson City.

She won the crown in 1964 and when the state celebrates its 150th birthday, Callac-Jones will be here. She will travel from her home in Florida to join in the birthday celebration and the 2014 Sesquicentennial Honoring Reception for the 1964 Centennial Indian Princesses, co-hosted by the Nevada Indian Commission and the Reception Planning Committee.
