Foundation awards Carson City-based Pets of Homeless grant to provide nationwide dog vet care

Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national animal welfare nonprofit based in Carson City, Nev., received an $83,000 grant recently from the Lazin Animal Foundation, to provide financial assistance toward emergency veterinary care to more than 220 bully breed dogs in 2020.

Breezy northeast and east winds may result in another round of blowing dust Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Dust kicked up from nearby dry lake beds may produce localized areas of visibility reduced below 4 miles, including portions of Reno and Carson City.

Carson City was represented Saturday by the Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band during the Chinese New Year Parade held in San Francisco. Led by director Bill Zabelsky, it was the third year Blue Thunder participated in the parade.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested three in the area of Bryan Circle and Lompa Lane for suspected drug, firearm and other offenses, a booking report states.

Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. Motorcycle accident reported near Carson City airport

An injury accident was reported in front of the Carson City Airport just afternoon p.m. on Saturday.

Dispatch advised a motorcyclist hit a curb and crashed and the rider was down.

First responders are enroute. Avoid the area if possible.

South Carson Complete Streets, Roundabout design completed; construction to begin early March

The South Carson Complete Streets Project design has been completed, and last week Carson City Public Works and the project contractor, Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc., held a pre-construction meeting to present the anticipated construction schedule and the completed project design.

Carson City man arrested for drug charges in the same parking lot he was arrested in the month before

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested on three alternative sentencing violations as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license.

According to the report, Special Enforcement Team deputies were patrolling in an unmarked police vehicle in the area of William and Stewart when they witnessed a man seated upright in the driver seat of a vehicle who continued to duck up and down in the driver’s seat.

Carson City Fire Department has busiest year on record in 2019 with 11,362 incident responses

Friday afternoon the Carson City Fire Department released a statement regarding their responses during 2019, including responses from the three fire stations in town, from both fire engines and ambulance responses.

Your Carson City Fire Department responded to 11,362 incidents in 2019. This was a 7.7% increase in total incidents from 2018 and the busiest year on record.

NHP Investigating Fatal Crash on S. Virginia Street at Tamarack Junction Casino

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, at approximately 2:51 PM, NHP Troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on S. Virginia Street at Tamarack Junction Casino in Reno.

The preliminary investigation shows a white 2014 Triumph Daytona motorcycle was traveling southbound on S. Virginia Street approaching Tamarack Junction Casino.

Nevada State Museum continues 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with weekend activities for kids

Nothing adds to the history of a time, an event, a place or an object more than becoming a part of that history and the Nevada State Museum in Carson City is making sure the history of the Carson City Mint will continue for generations to come.

As part of its celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint — Mint 150 — the museum is hosting Kids Minting Days on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9. Children 17 and younger are admitted for free and each child will receive a commemorative copper medallion memorializing the Mint’s 150th anniversary.

Alleged shooter of Carson Colony victim taken into custody

UPDATE: Just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon a man was taken into custody at a casino in the 900 block of South Carson Street. The suspect is linked to a shooting last night at the Carson Colony, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson City Sheriff's Office highlights speed enforcement, key points for motorists

The Carson City Sheriffs Office will be continuing to enforce speeding laws and educate drivers stopped for speeding. Simply stated in Nevada Revised Statute 484B.600, basic rule for speeding: It is unlawful for any person to drive or operate a vehicle of any kind at a rate of speed greater than that posted by a public authority.

Washoe County coroner: High school student deaths investigated as possibly drug related

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is currently investigating the deaths of two Damonte Ranch High School students. While the cause of death has not been determined for either student, the Office says the deaths are being investigated as possibly drug-related.
