On Dec. 14, 2022, Lyon County held a dedication ceremony renaming the Tahoe Avenue Storm Drainage Canal to the Ken Harvey Canal. The event was held at 2565 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs where a monument and plaque was unveiled overlooking the canal.

— Hazardous Fuels-Community Protection (HF-CP) Grant – These grant funds support hazardous fuels reduction projects and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems. Projects must be located on private property that is adjacent to US Forest Service lands. Please submit your pre-proposal by January 17, 2023, at 5pm.

The Nevada State Police invites the Northern Nevada community to a “Cram the Cruiser” toy drive happening this Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Reno Nevada Highway Patrol Office, 357 Hammil Lane in Reno.

Nevada State Police troopers and officers will be collecting toy donations for children in need in our community. Refreshments will be provided as troopers attempt to "Cram the Cruiser" with gifts.

Western Nevada College is excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jack C. Davis Observatory in 2023. The observatory is named after the college’s first president and opened in 2003 with astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon, lecturing at opening ceremonies.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Librarian Joy Holt, who assumed the position on October 1st after serving several months as acting director. Her predecessor, Tod Colegrove, is now dean of the Albertsons Library at Boise State.

Our chapter includes people from Carson City and the surrounding areas who are concerned about climate issues. The Northern Nevada Dream Center, a Carson City based nonprofit, is holding its eighth annual Dream Christmas event, a mobile caravan of holiday joy and goodies for individuals and families in need.

Truckee Meadows Community College political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Lokken will give his expert analysis of the recent midterm election and look ahead to the lame duck session of congress, the 2023 legislative session, and prospects for 2024, including the possibility of Nevada hosting the first in the nation presidential primary.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture is seeking to partner with a Nevada-based organization to develop a data collection methodology to track overall food insecurity data in Nevada, including the efforts of multiple food assistance programs relative to projected need and subsequent outcomes.
