Black History Month Essay Contest

The Northern Nevada Cultural Foundation,a 501-(c-3) in partnership with the Alpha Nu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is sponsoring a Black History Month essay contest. The contest is open to all students attending Carson City schools in grades 6-12. This year's theme is "Black Resistance: Creating Communities of Care and Collaboration."

Adam Whitt Foundation accepting applications for youth sports participants

The Adam Whitt Foundation, a 501(c)(3) accepts applications from youth needing assistance with participation fees associated with sports.

Funds are available to qualifying families with youth ages 10-18 for organized sports. Funds can be utilized for registration fees, travel expenses, new/used equipment, and other associated athletic expenses.

Having served as the district's chief financial officer for eight years, he was able to hit the ground running when promoted to the top job in July. His presentation will provide insights into how successful Carson City's schools have been at implementing the district's "learner-centered" model, which focuses instruction on what the individual student needs to know and be able to do.

Lyon County unveils Ken Harvey Canal plaque in Silver Springs

On Dec. 14, 2022, Lyon County held a dedication ceremony renaming the Tahoe Avenue Storm Drainage Canal to the Ken Harvey Canal. The event was held at 2565 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs where a monument and plaque was unveiled overlooking the canal.
