The Carson Valley Trails Association invites the public to attend our first ever Carson Valley Trails Fest — part trail dedication, part block party!

n August 18, 2022, the Carson City Board of Supervisors (“Board”) approved the recommendation from the Board of Health to recognize that both unsheltered individuals and emergency housing, are critical issues in Carson City and that approximately $1.1 million from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) funding be awarded to programs or projects that support the Carson City Housing Plan.

The Rotary Club of Carson City is taking part in the U.S. Navy Week in Carson City this week. Three Navy representatives will join the Rotarians at their weekly lunch meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 27. The meeting takes place at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be former Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi, currently a member of the Board of Supervisors representing Ward 1. He assumed office on January 7, 2019 and is running for reelection.

Giomi serves as the Board of Supervisor's representative on the Carson City Cultural and Tourism Authority, the Carson Water Sub-Conservancy District, and the Western Nevada Legislative Coalition. He is also Carson City’s representative to the Nevada Association of Counties.

Medicare can be confusing. That’s why you need to attend this no-cost Medicare 101 seminar with Craig Wilcox at Red’s Old 395 Grill on Tuesday, September 20 at noon. You’ll learn about the different parts of Medicare and how to avoid common mistakes with coverage decisions.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Lupe Ramirez, District 1 candidate for reelection to the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. Lupe currently serves as board Secretary and the board's designated representative to the Student Attendance Review Board and Partnership Carson City. She also serves as the board's liaison with Seeliger Elementary School and Carson High School.

Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada, a nonprofit with a vision of a safe home and community for everyone announced that four community projects will be hosted in September and October, including two in Carson City.

Long time Northern Nevada broadcaster John Potter will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend what should be an informative and entertaining event.

There have been many requests for a night-time experience at the Nevada State Prison Historic Site. So on selected Tuesday nights, the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is offering guided, two-hour "Ghost Walks."

The 22nd annual volunteer cleanup at the Fernley Swales (segments of the California National Historic Emigrant Trail and the original transcontinental railroad) will be on National Public Lands Day, Saturday Sept. 24, from 9 am to 1 pm, just north of the truck stop at I-80 exit 48.

Volunteers will receive T-shirts and a free one-day entrance pass to National Parks and recreation areas. Partners for the cleanup include the Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon-California Trails Association, the Fernley Rotary, the Desert Pigs and Olcese Waste Services.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Shannon McDaniel, a licensed professional engineer and water rights surveyor who is currently the Democratic candidate for Nevada State Assembly, District 40. In the November 8th general election she will be facing off against incumbent GOP Assemblyman P.K. O'Neill.

The American Association of University Women Capital Branch Nevada invites all to the annual membership luncheon on Saturday, September 17, 11 am to 1 pm at the Governor's Mansion, Carson City. The Carson Unit of Retired School Employees will be having a meeting on Friday, September 9th at 11 a.m. We will meet at MiCasa Too, 3809 N Carson St in Carson City.
You are welcome to attend and join this group if you have previously been employed by any school. Our group meets four times in a school year to foster good fellowship among retired employees and assist young people to enter the field of education by providing scholarships. We welcome new members and look forward to meeting you.

The Carson High School senior in the spotlight this week is Alyssa Tomita. Alyssa is an incredible young woman, bright, talented, and outgoing. In addition to being a good student, Alyssa is an important addition to the Carson High School community.

The Mackay Muckers, a competitive mining team from UNR, will be holding a mining competition at the Sutro Tunnel Site Saturday, October 1st at 10am.
