I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: March 24 - 25

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. For a family friendly outing, check out Story Time with Suzie at the Nevada Railroad Museum, or photos with the Easter Bunny at PetSmart.

The annual Northern Nevada Children’s Art Reception hosted by Artsy Fartsy is a fun way to discover the up-and-coming talent in our area. All the artists are school-aged and local, not to mention pretty incredible.

Before you head to the grocery store for Easter Brunch provisions, test your luck at the annual Kiwanis Club Ham BINGO. It raises money for a good cause, and is a fun way to pass an afternoon.

The Brewery Arts Center will be hopping tonight. Do you ever wonder about that old stone house at the eastern entrance to Mills Park? Called the ‘Wungnema House,’ it has some interesting history. Take a tour today during the monthly open house, and learn more about the early residents of Carson City. As a child of the eighties, I’m quite excited about this week’s Flashback Cinema feature at Galaxy Theaters. ‘The Dark Chrystal’ was a favorite of mine. If you’ve got kids, or a pang of nostalgia, catch one of the two showings today, or later this week on Wednesday.

As the summer sun begins to heat up, so does the excitement at Dayton Pop Warner as local athletes gear up for a two-day strength and conditioning camp.

Nevada State Police has identified a Northern California man who died in a fatal crash last month on I-80 in Fernley.

Carson High School will host its First Annual Art Expo, showcasing the talents of its student artists in photography, graphic design, drawing, painting and ceramics Thursday, May 16, from 5-7 p.m.

A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of carrying a concealed knife without a permit, a gross misdemeanor offense, and misdemeanor disturbing the peace, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Hello fellow anglers. Depending on where you were for the opening day season, the waters were high on the rivers and some lakes still had not iced out yet. But yet the strangest thing about it was. Students at Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City were swinging for success with their participation in the San Francisco Giants Junior Giants initiative. The free, non-competitive and innovative baseball program for boys and girls ages 5-13, focuses on education, health and bullying prevention, providing a holistic approach to community sports.

Nevada Humane Society, Carson City branch's Pet of the Week is Valkerye, a one-year-old shepherd mix who still has a big puppy heart. She enjoys playing with children as she is used to living with them.
