Do you love meeting new people? AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Volunteers will be providing free tax preparation services at the Carson City Senior Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from February 1st through April 12th in 2023.

We need a Receptionist and two Screeners (“Client Facilitators”). The Receptionist checks people in with tax appointments.

The Carson City Senior Center is helping seniors living in the quad counties — Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey — age 70 and over in signing up for COVID-19 vaccinations.

The newly elected Board of Supervisors, including Mayor Lori Bagwell, Supervisor Lisa Schuette, Supervisor Mo White, and appointed supervisor Stan Jones, along with Supervisor Stacey Giomi, met for their first board meeting of 2021 on Thursday.

Members of Carson City Soroptimist helped Santa fulfill the Christmas lists of local homebound seniors. A big thank you to elves Cynthia Bunt and the FIG Insurance Agency for serving as Santa's workshop, and to Mary Luster for coordinating member efforts and getting the bags full of goodies to the Carson City Senior Center for delivery to homes in time for Christmas.

The Sertoma Coat Drive is in full operation for its fourth year of collecting and distributing clothing to the people in the community who are without warm outerwear. With 19 blue barrels in Carson Valley and 7 in Carson City, everyone who wants to donate new and gently used coats, blankets, and warm outerwear is finding a donation spot.

Chugg came to The Nevada Humane Society in Carson City on the 29th of September, 2020 when he was found as an injured stray.  

They have doctored this shy but sweet boy up and he is ready to find his forever home.

Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning delivered more than 20 brand-new box fans for Carson City seniors during the annual 2020 KOLO Cares Fan Drive.

This is the second year the Carson City Senior Center has participated in the drive, distributing fans to seniors who either do not have air conditioning or who may not be able to afford to run it.

In the midst of COVID-19, several local non-profits, churches, homeless shelters and social services are helping those in need. Community food resources in the Carson City, Minden, Silver Springs, Yerington, Gardnerville and Dayton areas have put together plans and options during these unprecedented times.

On Friday, July 24 and Friday, July 31, Farmers Market coupons will be distributed from 1 to 3 p.m. or until the coupons are gone. Coupon booklets will be distributed at the Carson City Senior Center in the parking lot, with the help of Carson City Rotary members, RSVP volunteers and staff.

Local outfit Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning is seeking donations of brand-new box fans for Carson City seniors during the annual 2020 KOLOCares Fan Drive.

CARSON CITY — After being closed over two and a half months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Second Wind Thrift Store will reopen on Tuesday, June 2. Everything that you have come to enjoy about shopping at Second Wind will be the same including the great customer service and unmatched treasures.

Well before dawn, a kitchen crew arrives. Ovens are turned on; food is pulled for today’s meal. Sheet pans are lined, steam pans are filled. Hundreds of disposable cups, trays and lids line the countertops ready to be filled. The crew preps intuitively – they’ve done this many times before. The crew is the Carson City Senior Center. It’s just another morning at the Carson City Senior Center.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell delivered a proclamation Thursday honoring March for Meals. On March 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older.

Heading into the middle of the work work, more sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap for Wednesday with highs in the mid-60s. Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.
