Update: Rain helps further containment and mopup efforts at Little Valley Fire

UPDATE 830PM: The Little Valley Fire is now 90 percent contained. Due to the break in the weather today, a helicopter mission was able to map the burned area and current acreage was readjusted to 2,291 acres.

On Monday partnership agencies began implementing the community reentry plan into the fire affected area. Residents whose homes are uninhabitable were escorted into the restricted area. All residents that are in the exclusion area will be allowed to return starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Residents are required to enter from the south end of Franktown Road and must show identification.

Old US 395A is open; however Franktown Road remains closed below 6190 Franktown Road.

Drenching rain has proved to be helpful for firefighters on the Little Valley Fire in Washoe Valley, with 55 percent containment as of Monday morning, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Mandatory evacuation is expected to be lifted by Wednesday if conditions allow.

— Carson Street will be closed between Musser and Fifth on Monday only.
— Fifth Street is open to east and westbound traffic, Musser Street is open to east and westbound traffic.
— Robinson will be closed at Carson Street, both east and west side for the week, Monday through Friday.
— Carson Street will be open north and southbound Tuesday through Friday.

I-580 and Eastlake reopen, structures lost in 2,000-acre Little Valley Fire

UPDATE 6:22PM: The Little Valley Fire has burned more than 2,000 acres and 22 homes. The fire is burning west of Franktown Road, moving north toward Bowers Mansion and Joy Lake Road. The Unified Command transitioned to the Sierra Front Type 3 Incident Management Team at 5 p.m.

Caltrans project to cause road closures and delays near Emerald Bay for two weeks

Those hoping to take a leisurely drive around Lake Tahoe's iconic Emerald Bay during the next couple of weeks will experience delays and detours because of a construction project set to begin Monday.

Caltrans will perform a full roadway closure of State Highway 89 near South Lake Tahoe from just south of the Cascade Creek Bridge to Bayview Campground and Inspiration Vista Point.

President Obama to speak today at 20th Lake Tahoe Summit

It isn't every day that a community is able to welcome the President of the United States but today is that day for south shore Lake Tahoe as it prepares for a visit by President Barack Obama.

The president is the keynote speaker at the 20th annual Lake Tahoe Summit at Harveys Outdoor Arena at Stateline. Nevada Sen. Harry Reid is hosting the event, which will be live streamed here.

Shooting Fire 80 percent contained, not threatening, SFIDC says

UPDATE 11AM: The Shooting Fire is now 80 percent contained and remains non-threatening to structures with a total of 252 acres burned, SFIDC spokeswoman Shannon Brophy said.

The Shooting Fire, which started late Sunday morning behind C Hill and spread quickly near the Carson Colony Indian reservation off South Curry Street, is currently 30 percent contained this morning after having burned 250 acres of sagebrush and grass, said Shannon Brophy of Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting to provide updates on construction of the USA Parkway extension on Thursday, Aug. 11.

The USA Parkway was originally constructed as a privately built, six-mile-long road connecting Interstate 80 to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of Sparks.

Some downtown businesses hurt by bike race closures

While the inaugural Epic Rides Carson City Off-Road mountain bike race series may have been a boon to the local economy, some downtown businesses struggled to stay out of the red last weekend because of what they felt were excessive road closures for the first-time event.
