Carson City road construction report for Jan. 31 to Feb. 6

Here is the Carson City area construction and maintenance road report for this week provided by the city's Public Works Department:

On Monday, Jan. 31, the outside southbound lane of Stewart Street will be closed between 2nd and 3rd Streets between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. because of work on state property.

On Thursday Feb. 3 the intersection of Musser and Curry streets, as well as Musser Street between Curry and Carson streets, will be closed from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. Friday morning, Feb. 4 because of utility work.  

Celebration of Arts on Sunday to launch Nevada governor inauguration of Brian Sandoval

The inauguration of Nevada's 29th governor, Brian Sandoval, will begin on Sunday with a celebration of arts in Carson City and then continue on Monday with the official ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the state capitol.

Beginning on Sunday, Jan. 2, from 1 to 5 p.m., cultural organizations in downtown Carson City will open their doors to offer free music and dance performances, demonstrations by traditional artists, visual arts and history exhibitions, children’s activities and shopping opportunities.

With the end of the year brings continued road improvements in the Carson City region. Here's what's happening this week:

— Expect minor delays from Fairview Drive between Butti Way and 5th Street roundabout which will be reduced to one lane with flaggers during daytime hours because of water utility improvements.

Region braces for strong storm system; potential for flooding exists in Carson City

A strong winter storm will push into the Carson City and Lake Tahoe region today bringing rain to the valley and several feet of snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra though at least Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno and Carsonweather.com.

Storm prepares to hit Lake Tahoe and the Carson City region

There's been a lot of hype to this upcoming winter storm that will begin its reaches through the Carson City region later today and tonight with anticipated gusty winds and rain turning to snow.

But with trust in the weather folks at the National Weather Service in Reno and Carsonweather.com, this storm could well be the real deal. In fact a winter storm warning goes into effect at 10 tonight and will last through 10 a.m. Sunday for the Carson City region.

Mormon Emigrant Trail closes for season on Friday

The Mormon Emigrant Trail that links Highway 88 and Highway 50 will close for the season on Friday, the U.S. Forest Service announced.

The road will be gated closed near the Iron Mountain Snopark, which is at 7,000-foot elevation. The route will reopen in the spring, when conditions improve.
