Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of March 7-13, 2016: Beginning Monday, March 7, work will begin on the downtown corridor improvement project on Carson Street.

This week, traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction. On Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8, north and southbound traffic will be diverted to the northbound side road. As work progresses, crews may be in the right lanes each direction.

Motorists on I-580 and other freeways approaching Washoe Valley will temporarily see roadside flashing signs prohibiting semi-trucks and other vehicles over nine feet tall between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 as the Nevada Department of Transportation tests a new, enhanced wind warning system through the Valley.

With Monday’s last blast of fall, the first day of winter brings less gusty winds and clearing skies before another fast moving, cold winter storm arrives in the Lake Tahoe and the Carson City region Thursday, Christmas Eve.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Dec. 21-27, 2015: The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue work on the construction of an auxiliary lane on southbound I-580 from the Eastlake Boulevard interchange to the N. Carson Street off-ramp. There will be nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. beginning Sunday evening through Wednesday morning.

While not much in the way of snow happened overnight in Carson City, forecasters say a few snow showers may make their way off the lake. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Scattered snow showers are expected to continue on and off through the morning from Reno to Carson Valley. The snow showers are likely to become more numerous by mid day, potentially producing 1-2 inches of powdery snow, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm has begun to move into the region, bringing gusty winds to Carson City this Tuesday morning that will be followed by snow in the Sierra and down to the valley floor.

Hello fellow anglers, fishing season is coming to an end in some areas. In California, this will be your last weekend to fish many rivers and streams. On Nov. 16, the majority of rivers and streams in California will be officially closed for the season.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 16. Permits are $10 each with a limit of two permits per family. Permits must be purchased in person, are not transferable and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Monday morning has arrived with rain showers in Carson City and snow in the Sierra. Forecasters have made some adjustments since Sunday, with the latest from the National Weather Service calling for temperatures to drop, with snow possible on the valley floor late in the afternoon and into Tuesday morning.

A Nevada Department of Transportation project to repave and enhance Kingsbury Grade last year has received a Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Best in the Basin Award.

The project substantially completed ahead of schedule in 2014, and was recognized as a water quality and erosion control improvement that helped enhance the Lake Tahoe environment.
