Sunday, June 18: Things to do around Carson City and beyond this Father's Day

A happy Fathers’ Day to all of you with kids, and all of you making a difference in a kid’s life. Enjoy some family time at the Carson Hot Springs where fathers are swimming free today. Downtown is still hopping with live music, bicycles, and great food. The following is the Friday through Sunday road closure schedule for the second annual Carson City Off-Road event. Carson Street, from Proctor to 5th will be closed Friday 5 a.m. to Sunday 11:59 p.m. The following roadways will be impacted throughout the weekend:

UPDATE MONDAY 5:40AM: A late spring storm blasted the Sierra with snow this morning, forcing chain or snow tire requirements over Highway 50 Spooner, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade, State Route 431 over Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 over Donner Pass. Go here for an update on area road conditions related to the storm. The National Weather Service forecast calls for the skies to be clearing by tonight with a gradual warming trend this week.

Drivers will see minor travel delays on Kingsbury Grade (State Route 207) through June as the Nevada Department of Transportation removes debris from eroded roadside slopes and drainages.

NDOT reopens Kingsbury Grade following rock fall, slide repairs

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reopened Kingsbury Grade (State Route 207) at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday following repairs to an eroding roadside slope and extensive rockfall.

Douglas County to focus on recovery and next storms

MINDEN — Douglas County, emergency officials continue to focus on assessment and recovery efforts as the flood waters subside. However, the region is expected to see more dangerous weather in the coming days.

Highway 50 remains closed at Cave Rock, Kyburz; Route between North and South Tahoe opens

Travelers hoping to get to Tahoe have some routes to take. Caltrans has opened State Route 89 along the west shore of Lake Tahoe, enabling motorists to travel between the north and south end of the lake without having a multi-hour detour.

Highway 50 at Logan Creek near Cave Rock on the east shore of Lake Tahoe remains closed due to an unstable hillside above the road. Motorists attempting to get to south shore Lake Tahoe can take State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade.

Commissioners declare Douglas County disaster area after latest flooding

Following damaging winds and flood waters in the Carson Valley that left power lines down and roads covered with standing water, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners has declared a state of emergency, the Douglas County Joint Information Center said in a press release Saturday.

The latest atmospheric river system having moved out of the area late Friday afternoon, the Carson City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has closed its operation, a press release from the Municipality of Carson City said.

Carson City Emergency Operations Center reports: Kings Canyon Road west of the Longview intersection is now open. Water and debris continue to cover the roadway, please use caution if driving on the road.
