We're looking at a steady flow of showers today, according to the National Weather Service with snow in the upper elevations of the Sierra. There is a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight for the west slope of the Sierra. Today in town we have events that range from a Carson High School team fundraiser to movies to politics to fitness. Enjoy your day.

Local restaurant and brewery, The Fox Brewpub, will hold a fundraiser for a local family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The event, which will raise funds for ten year-old Aylee Sharron, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is the daughter of Mariel and Tony Sharron, will feature a raffle and live-music.

Good morning Carson City! It's finally starting to feel like Spring around here. The weather today is going to be another gorgeous day, sunny with highs of 56, a low of 28, and 52 percent humidity. On the schedule today we have a ton of wonderful events, from a live music benefit for the homeless, to pollinator workshops, a Roller Derby match, a Veteran's Remembrance Day celebration at Mills Park, and much more. This April, the Society of Women Engineers, Sierra Nevada Section, will host their seventh annual banquet to support Northern Nevada and Northern California area youth exploring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

High school teachers from around the region are invited to nominate female students in their classes to receive this award of merit. Those students who are nominated are then invited to attend the banquet –along with their friends, families, supporters and teachers – to receive a certificate and accolades on stage and with fanfare.

People across Nevada nominated exceptional individuals and organizations for the 2019 Nevada Humanities Awards. These awards are for outstanding achievements in, and contributions to, the humanities, conferred bi-annually by Nevada Humanities.

With preliminary groundwork underway, construction will soon begin on the new Carson City Nissan Dealership at 2750 South Carson Street.

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will premiere in Carson City on April 11 at the Galaxy Fandango Theaters with the first showing at 7 p.m.

Pollinators, like honey bees, bumble bees, and monarch butterflies, are in serious need of quality habitat in northern Nevada. If you’d like to be a part of this awesome community garden that will be a haven for these important species, we’d love your help!

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will be raking and picking out the shrubbery to make room for spring planting, so make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and comfy clothes. Gloves and snacks will be provided. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon. Click on flier for more details.

The Carson City chapter of Ducks Unlimited is hosting its annual banquet April 6 at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. The banquet will feature high-quality firearms and art work, collector’s knife sets, carved decoys, and K2 coolers. The event is family friendly with special youth activities and drawings.

Hello Community! I want to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Cassidy Davis and I am the owner of Northern Nevada HotSpot as well as the founder of a local organization, Faith Hope Love of Northern Nevada. I created my business as well as my organization to help bless the lives of those in our local Northern Nevada communities. I use to wonder what my life purpose was and how I could help to make a difference. I tried a few things here and there, but never felt I was really doing anything that truly blessed anyone.

Indoor cyclists burned at least 2,000 calories and rode about 50 miles within the first 20 minutes at Life Cycle Elite Spin Studio's 24-hour community ride Friday.

The event was organized by Jill Larson, who coordinated with the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Nevada and the Healthy Habits Program.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education’s Northern Nevada Educator Licensure Division is moving to the Department’s main office, located at 700 East Fifth Street in Carson City, on April 1.

“We believe this move will improve our customer service in Northern Nevada,” said Jason Dietrich, Interim Deputy Superintendent. “It will also better connect our staff with the rest of the Nevada Department of Education.”

On Tuesday, March 26, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, "The Lilley", by the University of Nevada, Reno, curator Paul Baker Prindle.

The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 6pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Baker Prindle preceding the event at 5:30pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

Students from across the state came to Carson City on Wednesday from the Jobs for America’s Graduates program to meet with government officials, take tours of their state Capitol building, and sit in on Assembly and Senate meetings.

Hello Carson City, today is Wednesday, March 20, 2019, the first day of Spring and the middle of the work week. Today is Nevada Moves Day where schoolchildren will be walking and riding their bikes to and from school. Motorists may want to be especially careful as there are more kids on the sidewalks and crosswalks than usual.

Northern Nevada Development Authority's monthly meeting of The Business Edge presents will feature Blockchains: A New World of Technology on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. a.m. at Casino Fandango in Carson City.

The Nevada Wolf Pack mens basketball team is flying high this morning for a dancing date in the NCAA Tournament, after an escort to the airport by a squadron of Reno Police motorcycle officers.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 6 p.m., Battle Born Progress will host its biennial Northern Nevada fundraising event, Celebrate Progress, in Carson City. The event recognizes the outstanding work of Northern Nevada’s progressive leaders, activists, volunteers, and organizations for their nonstop commitment to progressive values.

The CHS teacher of the year is Astronomy, Honors Physics, and head CHS Freshman Football Coach James Bean Jr. Born in Okinawa, Japan where his dad, a Marine, met his mother, Bean moved back to the US when he was 4-years-old.

Cameron Rudy was crowned Mr. Carson High 2019 Friday at the Carson City Community Center in Carson City.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents an exhibition, "The Lay of the Land," by artist Fred Howland in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition runs now through June 30, 2019. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, March 29, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room, and the artist will give a brief talk about his photography at 5:30 p.m.

Retired Vice Admiral Lee Gunn, U.S. Navy, Vice Chairman of the CNA Military Advisory Board, is the featured speaker at the National Security Forum’s breakfast Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Sands Regency Hotel & Casino, 345 N Arlington Ave, Reno.

Sondra Cosgrove, President of the League of Women Voters of Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon.

Her teleconferenced presentation will spotlight AB186, legislation currently under consideration which if enacted will ratify the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote. Judy Welch, program coordinator for the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, will moderate the discussion locally.

Northern Nevada Hotspot and Faith Hope Love Of Northern Nevada are collecting donations of small toys, goodies, candy and Easter baskets from now until April 14. They will deliver the Easter baskets and the candy-filled plastic eggs for an egg hunt on Saturday, April 20.

Zero Fatalities has expanded its partnership with Lyft by teaming up with local businesses and organizations committed to eliminating impaired driving fatalities in Northern Nevada.

Lyft has pledged $50,000 in free ride credit to be distributed during major consumption holidays to support the coalition’s campaigns that promote safe transportation options throughout the region.

Uncovering Nevada’s past is the topic for the Carson City Leisure Hour Club on Wednesday, March 20. Presented by Dennis Casinelli, club members will learn about artifacts that he discovered while growing up in Nevada and during his long career as a highway engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation. He also founded Cassinelli Landscaping and Construction, which still serves Northern Nevada today.

Sergio Trejo Jr., a Las Vegas native and first-generation college graduate, visited several Carson City schools recently to share his inspiring story about his admittance to medical school. Trejo presented to more than 150 students.
