The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation is hosting a Memorial Day Service today, noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.
Among the order of service was a noon Raising of the Colors. The service will feature a presentation of the Colors by the Carson City Division of US Naval Sea Cadets, the National Anthem, Invocation. At around 1 p.m. there will be the introduction of speakers, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen and U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei followed by A Memorial Day Tribute by the High Desert Post 56 All Veteran Honor Guard, closing remarks and a Benediction.

Memorial Day is the day we celebrate those men and women who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. There are events Monday in Carson City at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery and at Lone Mountain Cemetery and in Fernley at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Performances by Great Basin Young Chautauquans will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 and Saturday, June 1, 2019, starting at 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Restless Artists Theatre, located at 295 20th Street in Sparks. The Northern Nevada Astronomy Group will have various sizes of telescopes available for viewing stars, planets, and other wonders of the galaxy. A short presentation about astronomy will be given while it gets dark enough for the telescopes. Participants should bring a jacket, red light if possible (red light does not negatively affect night vision), and a lawn chair.
