NHP urges motorists to slow down, take the extra time during July 4 holiday

As part of Joining Forces, a statewide law enforcement program, additional law enforcement officers will be working overtime now through July 13 enforcing speed limit laws.

UPDATE 3:08PM: Forward progress on the fire in Dayton has stopped, according to Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. The fire burned approximately 10 acres entirely on Dayton State Park property, said the CLCFPD battalion chief. The fire and investigation is now under the command of Nevada Division of Forestry.

Highway 395 near Topaz Lodge reopened

With help from the Nevada Department of Transportation Highway 395 is now open. The Douglas County Road Department, Town of Minden and the Town of Gardnerville made progress on Topaz Park Road and it remains open.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — There was an explosion just after 5 a.m. in Stateline on Sunday morning, causing the road to buckle and closing Highway 50 in both directions through the casino corridor. Multiple agencies are on the scene including NV Energy, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department.

Snow was still coming down at around 8 p.m. The Nevada Department of Transportation has plows and sand trucks in the area. NHP advises the roadway remains icy and snow-covered.

Preliminary investigation shows that a black 1999 Ford Expedition SUV was traveling eastbound on US-50, west of Retail Road. A white 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan was traveling westbound on US-50, west of Retail Road.
