A Carson City couple have been identified in the Tuesday night July 4 fatal head-on crash that happened on Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 955PM: From Douglas County: The Topaz Fire is in mop up status at the present time. The fire burned 8 acres within the Topaz Subdivision just south of the Topaz Lodge in Southern Douglas County.
Highway 395 was closed during initial fire attack operations. The highway is now open but motorist are urged to proceed with caution through the area. One out building was damaged in the fire and no structures were lost. Approximately 30 to 40 homes were threatened at one time. Volunteer evacuations are still in place.

UPDATE 7:56PM: From NHP: At approximately 2:40 p.m., a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a fatal crash on Highway 50, 5 miles east of Dayton. One person was confirmed deceased on scene. The NHP tooper was transported via CareFlight to Renown with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Reno Police Department M.A.I.T. Investigators are handling the crash investigation.

A 74-year-old Livingston, Texas woman died Saturday in a crash that happened on US95 at the south end of Walker Lake, north of Hawthorne, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol will offer a car seat safety check at the Walmart Super Center in South Carson City. NHP will inspect, install and if needed, replace car seats on a case by case basis.

UPDATE 350PM: The patient has been flown by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. The cause is under investigation. Acting Battalion Chief Jason Danen said the vehicle, a sedan, plunged more than 100 feet down the ravine. The adult female victim managed to get herself out of the vehicle by the time rescue crews arrived.

Carson City Fire Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Wednesday afternoon to a traffic accident in the area of Highway 50 and Flint Drive. Care Flight has been ordered to take a patient from the incident.

Carson City firefighters and Nevada Highway Patrol were called Friday night to the area of I-580 near Bellevue Road for a rollover crash in which the vehicle wound up in Washoe Lake, according to responders arriving on scene.

A man who was found guilty of leading Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on a January pursuit on I-580 and through Washoe Valley was sentenced Tuesday to 2-5 years in prison, officials said.

A 22-year-old woman was booked into jail Thursday for a felony warrant alleging DUI causing substantial bodily harm, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command reports that a large boulder fell on to State Route 28 near Chimney Beach at the Carson City/Washoe County line, blocking both directions of travel.

A 24-year-old Tahoe man jailed Wednesday after leading Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on a vehicle pursuit from Highway 50 Spooner to downtown Carson City, faces charges of attempting to escape and destruction of jail property, a sheriff’s deputy said.

The number of pedestrian deaths statewide for 2017 has reached 23, that is 23 too many. Law enforcement agencies statewide, as part of Joining Forces, have been focusing this month on pedestrians and motorists who are breaking traffic safety laws.

12:31PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the driver as Jesus Herrarea-Casas from South Lake Tahoe. He was placed under arrest and taken to Carson City Sheriff’s Office for booking for Eluding Police, Reckless driving, Disregard Traffic control device(s), Speeding, and driving without a valid license. He may also be charged with DUI, pending the test results.

UPDATE 6:30PM: The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad used a robot to retrieve the grenade, which was determined to be disabled, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. No homes were evacuated during the incident.
