NHP: Wellington man dies in I-580 crash, 1 critically injured and 1 jailed for suspected DUI

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Wellington, Nev. man who died in a three-vehicle crash that happened early Sunday morning on I-580 south of Moana Lane in Reno.

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday on multiple felony drug charges including suspicion of trafficking methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell, a sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE: According to the Washoe County Sheriff Public Information Officer Bob Harmon, units are doing a search through Washoe Valley in an attempt to find evidence related to the La Guardia murders, but they are not following any specific leads.

“We have Search and Rescue volunteers and Washoe County Sheriff K-9 units that are searching through Washoe Valley right now,” said Harmon. “The search is related to the La Guardia investigation but there’s no specific lead they’re following. We’re doing the search just so we can leave no stone unturned, and to cover all the bases.”

Traffic in both directions on Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley, between the Bellevue overpass and Carson City, has been slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon after Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office closed left lanes in both directions while Search and Rescue members worked in the center median of the freeway running through Washoe Valley.

Douglas sheriff's involved in high speed pursuit, suspect in custody near Minden Airport

UPDATE 9:05AM: The suspect in last night's pursuit that ended near the Minden Tahoe Airport appears to not be related to the two homicides, according to Douglas County Sheriff Daniel J. Coverley.

A man was taken into custody late Sunday night after leading Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high speed pursuit that began in the Dresslerville area between the suspect and Washoe Tribal Police Officers after attempting to serve the suspect a warrant.

Nevada Highway Patrol reports vehicle versus pedestrian fatality on U.S. 395 north of Minden

UPDATE: 3:30PM: NHP continues to investigate a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle crash Saturday morning that claimed the life of the pedestrian.
According to NHP, the pedestrian was walking on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 395 near the Cradlebaugh Bridge north of Minden when struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at scene by medical personnel, NHP said.
Alcohol, drugs or speed do not seem to be a factor in the crash, NHP said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

NHP names suspect in Saturday's stolen vehicle pursuit that started in Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol has named the suspect in Saturday's stolen vehicle pursuit that started in Carson City and ended with a crash near the Galena Bridge on Interstate 580 in Washoe County.

Stolen vehicle leads Carson City Sheriff's deputies on pursuit into Washoe Valley

UPDATE SUNDAY: A man was arrested Saturday night in the North Valley area of Washoe County by Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and a Carson City sheriff's sergeant following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that began in Carson City, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. The Carson City suspect, now in Washoe County custody, was arrested at around 8:30 p.m.

According to Furlong, CCSO scaled back its pursuit once it crossed the county line but followed the suspect vehicle through Washoe Valley. The vehicle crashed and the suspect attempted to flee but was caught by arriving CCSO and NHP officers. The suspect faces charges related to the pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm, said Furlong.

UPDATE 5:13PM: Slick road conditions and multiple spinouts are being reported by the Nevada Highway Patrol during the Tuesday evening commute. The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and take extra caution when driving. The snow is expected to end before the morning commute, but roads may remain slippery. The weather service Winter Weather Advisory was activated late this afternoon due to snow arriving earlier than expected.

Between 2 to 4 inches of snow expected overnight Tuesday into Wednesday around Carson City and Western Nevada has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the region.

Carson City emergency crews called to crash at Spooner junction at Highway 50 and 395

UPDATE 4:38PM: Two people were injured in the Monday afternoon crash at Spooner Junction, with one person flown by Care Flight and the other taken by ground ambulance to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
