Lyon County man dies in accident on Highway 50 at Mound House east of Carson City

A vehicle accident this morning at Mound House east of Carson City took the life of a 66-year-old Lyon County man, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this afternoon.

The accident happened shortly before 10 this morning in the area of Highway 50 and Mound House east of Highland Drive in Lyon County.

According to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen, a gray 1989 Chevrolet 4-door sedan was traveling eastbound on the four-lane highway at a very high rate of speed in an area where the speed zone was 45 mph.

Road re-opened after V & T derails near Virginia City (UPDATE)

A storm cell that hit the Gold Hill area produced mud slides that may be behind what caused V&T Engine 29 to derail, officials said this morning.

The V&T engine derailed last night at about 6:30 near Gold Hill after a series of heavy rains produced micro-mudslides, many of which may have flowed onto the V&T Railroad tracks.

Hundreds of families making up, perhaps, several thousand people, gathered Tuesday night at Mills Park in Carson City to attend the region's largest public safety event, the 27th annual National Night Out.

Woman faces felony charges in July 21 crash near Dayton

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports today that it has booked a 21-year-old woman on charges related to a July 21 head-on accident on Highway 50 west of Dayton.
Occupants of both vehicles were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident. The occupants of the Dodge van were all discharged from Renown, the NHP reports.

Flash flood warning issued for Carson City; power line snaps

A flash flood warning issued for Carson City has expired but continues through 6:15 p.m. in central Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Rain and heavy winds have punched the region, with reports of power outages in east and west Carson City.

In addition, the westbound lane of Highway 50 going up to Spooner Summit is closed, with Nevada Highway Patrol diverting traffic. No word yet on the cause for the closure.

A power line snapped and a transformer is down in the area of Spear and Nevada streets near Division. Carson City fire crews and the Carson City Sheriff's Office closed portions of traffic in the area. The downed power lines did not arc and were not live on the ground, according to fire personnel on the scene.

Motorcycle accident near Carson City on Highway 50 at Spooner shuts down traffic

Highway 50 on Spooner near Carson City is being closed in both directions this afternoon after a motorcycle accident in the west bound lane.
The accident was reported at around 4:30 this afternoon. Carson City and Douglas County emergency crews and the Nevada Highway Patrol are responding and Care Flight is preparing to land.
The accident is about 1.5 miles up Spooner Summit from Carson City in the westbound lane.
Initial reports called in by motorists to dispatch was that the motorcycle crashed and the rider was laying in the middle of the road.

Nevada Law Enforcement Agencies To Install New Vehicle Technology To Save Money – Cut Air Pollution

CARSON CITY – New technology aimed both at cutting unnecessary vehicle emissions and saving tax dollars will soon be installed in the fleets of four Nevada law enforcement agencies using federal stimulus funds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the City of Henderson Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are purchasing 175 of the “idle reduction� units for $700,000.

Vehicle wanted in Amber Alert may have been spotted in Carson City

A pink Lincoln Continental that is the subject of an Amber Alert today, may have been spotted in the Carson City area at around 11 this morning near Save Mart.

Fallon man identified in fatal accident

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified Claude Brown, 57, of Fallon, as the man who died in the two-vehicle accident that happened Tuesday morning on Highway 50, eight miles east of Fallon.
The driver of the silver Toyota Highlander, Sidney Ellen Imeson, 50, was transported via ground ambulance from Banner Churchill Community Hospital to Renown Regional Medical Center where she is currently listed in fair condition, according to the NHP.
Alcohol did not play a part in accident and investigators are looking into whether fatigue was a factor.

Update: NHP Investigates fatal accident east of Fallon

The Nevada Highway Patrol sent this update on the fatal accident this morning involving two vehicles near Fallon. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family members.

"This morning, at approximately 7:05 a.m., troopers from the NHP-Fallon District were dispatched to an automobile accident on Highway 50 near mile marker 32, approximately 8 miles east of Fallon.

One dead in Highway 50 accident east of Fallon

One person is dead after an accident this morning eight miles east of Fallon on Highway 50.
A male driver was killed in the two-vehicle accident and a female sustained injuries and was transported to Bannar Churchill Memorial Hospital, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Her condition is unknown at this time. Eastbound traffic was closed temporarily because of the accident, which was reported shortly after 7 this morning.

NHP: Driver killed in road racing event on Saturday in Storey County

A 37-year-old Las Vegas man was killed in a road racing accident in Storey County on Saturday. 
Alexander Djordjevic died at the scene after he lost control of his Porsche 911 during a sanctioned road racing event north of the Storey and Lyon county lines, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The 5.2-mile stretch of the two-lane highway had been closed to the public for two days between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday to facilitate a sanctioned road racing event, according to an NHP press statement.

News Release: Carson City agencies participate in mass fatality exercise

A fire chief, emergency manager; the sheriff; the coroner; a funeral director; the hospital security manager; a sheriff’s chief deputy and a captain, the health director and other health department officials met on Wednesday to assess the community’s ability to handle a critical incident causing numerous deaths.

Incidents resulting in fatalities that exceed the normal operating capacity of the Coroner’s Office are considered mass fatality and would trigger the activation of the Mass Fatality Management Plan.

NHP IDs two who died in accident on Highway 50 near Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified two people who died this morning in a three-car accident on Highway 50 three miles east of Carson City.

Isolde Ann Taysom, 51, of Dayton and Scott W. Lamonda, 46, of Yerington died at the scene of the accident, reported at 6:36 a.m. in Mound House, according to the NHP.

Carson City man dies in big rig accident on Sunday near Tonopah

A 78-year-old man, believed to be from Carson City, was killed Sunday morning in a big-rig accident near Tonopah, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The head-on accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on U.S. Highway 6, about 22 miles west of Tonopah near Blair Junction. The deceased man's name has not been released.
According to the accident report, Gregory Crain, 51, of North Bend, Oregon, was traveling east on the highway driving a white 2008 Peterbuit tractor-trailer registered to Redmond Transportation of Hollister, Calif.

Carson City deputies, NHP respond to hit and run on Highway 50

Carson City deputies responded to a hit and run earlier tonight, in which a black BMW X5 was rear-ended, with the driver allegedly speeding away after her airbag deployed.

The suspect apparently hit the BMW near Fairview and Carson Street at about 6:30, and then drove away, darting in and out of traffic.

Two witnesses, each driving separate vehicles, followed the suspect, who was driving a white sedan. The witnesses followed the sedan from Fairview down Saliman to Highway 50, alerting dispatchers of the accident.

Trailer slams into house, Reno man dies

A 57-year-old Reno man was killed after a tractor trailer slammed into an unoccupied home on Highway 50 west of Fallon, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this morning.

Larry D. Chance of Reno died from injuries after being transported to Churchill County Community Hospital in Fallon.

High winds through Washoe Valley to Carson City may make for difficult commute

As wind and rain blows into the Carson City region this afternoon, matters of commuting from Reno to Carson City may be difficult. A high wind warning is in effect today through the Washoe Valley. NHP reports weather-related accidents in Carson City, Northern Nevada and Tahoe regions

CARSON CITY — Northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe and the capital city have seen a share of vehicle accidents largely due to weather from today's winter storm. Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Chuck Allen reports the following:

"This morning between 6:00 and 11:00 am, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a total of 15 accidents throughout the region. 3 accidents involved injuries while the other 12 were property damage only. Although I don’t have details concerning every wreck, I wanted to at least provide some preliminary numbers concerning the commute this morning.
