Lyon County man dies in accident on Highway 50 at Mound House east of Carson City
A vehicle accident this morning at Mound House east of Carson City took the life of a 66-year-old Lyon County man, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this afternoon.
The accident happened shortly before 10 this morning in the area of Highway 50 and Mound House east of Highland Drive in Lyon County.
According to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen, a gray 1989 Chevrolet 4-door sedan was traveling eastbound on the four-lane highway at a very high rate of speed in an area where the speed zone was 45 mph.
The left front of the Chevrolet clipped the right rear of a black Audi four-door sedan that was also traveling eastbound. The driver of the Audi was not injured and he stopped and parked his vehicle in the center turn lane, according to NHP's Allen.
After striking the Audi, the Chevrolet veered off the right roadway edge and traveled several hundred feet, according to the NHP. The vehicle did not roll over and came to rest on its wheels.
Initial responders from Lyon County found the 66-year-old Lyon County man sitting behind the steering wheel. He was lifted out of his vehicle and CPR was administered. Life saving efforts continued until about 10:42 a.m, when the man was pronounced dead. The accident did not block or cause any travel lanes to be closed.
