Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Volunteers sought to help restore Carson City and Mills Park Railroad

CCRA would like to extend an invitation to any able-bodied volunteer willing to be a Gandy Dancer for a few hours on the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad.

New trees planted in Mills Park in honor of Carson City's 25th anniversary as Tree City on Arbor Day
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 04/27/2019 - 12:43pmTo celebrate Carson City’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Tree City USA, Carson City Parks and Recreation with and the Before and After School Program planted new trees in Mills Park on Arbor Day.
Kids from the program, as well as the public, were treated to an education lesson following the planting about the importance of trees, and Mayor Bob Crowell wrote a proclamation for the event.

There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. The Parks Foundation Opens the Wungnema House in Mills Park on Sunday, from 2 pm to 5 pm

Sunday will be perfect for a stroll around town, so while you are out and about, stop by Mills Park for the Parks Foundation’s monthly open house at the Wungnema House, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The Wungnema House is the charming stone cottage located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after WWII and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s.
There is no admission fee, and all are welcome.

Vietnam Veterans honored at Carson City ceremony in Mills Park

The ceremony was presented by the Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
"Today we share a few moments with our fellow veterans, family and friends to reflect on what that war meant and what it means to us today,” said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.

They’ll be serving up food from their double decker, 36-foot long, 15-foot tall British icon blue bus throughout the day on Oxoby Loop at Mills Park.

Come celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. An educational activity about the importance of trees will follow the ceremony. The planting and the lesson will mainly be for the Before & After School Program kids, but the public is more than welcome to watch and learn as well!
