The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Heading into Thursday, May 9, 2019 we're looking at a few showers and partly sunny skies around Carson City. The event lineup features the RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival kickoff and family night at Mills Park, a Healthy Communities event in Silver Springs, CASA volunteer information hour workshop, an afternoon hike along the Ash Canyon trail, art demonstrations, live music and more. With the goal of returning the railroad to operation this summer, the Carson City Railroad Association will be hosting Saturday track repair work sessions in Mills Park. CCRA would like to extend an invitation to any able-bodied volunteer willing to be a Gandy Dancer for a few hours on the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad.

Events lined up include a cancer center benefit bow shoot hosted by Clear Creek Bowmen, a Muscle Powered bike ride, a Bee City USA Earth Week presentation, an open house at the Wungnema House in Mills Park, a Carson City Symphony concert and more. To celebrate Carson City’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Tree City USA, Carson City Parks and Recreation with and the Before and After School Program planted new trees in Mills Park on Arbor Day.

Kids from the program, as well as the public, were treated to an education lesson following the planting about the importance of trees, and Mayor Bob Crowell wrote a proclamation for the event.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Spring is finally here, and Carson City is decked out in her spring finery. Sunday will be perfect for a stroll around town, so while you are out and about, stop by Mills Park for the Parks Foundation’s monthly open house at the Wungnema House, from 2 pm to 5 pm.

The Wungnema House is the charming stone cottage located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after WWII and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s.

There is no admission fee, and all are welcome.

Celebrating more than three decades of rides, games and fun, 2019 marks the 34th year that Nevada Rural Counties RSVP will host its Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park in Carson City, May 9-12.

A 28-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested early Thursday morning for felony battery with a deadly weapon and mayhem after allegedly hitting a man in the face with a rock, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Three Carson City residents were arrested Friday at their residence in the 2300 block of Columbia Way on several charges including: suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failing to register.

A 39-year-old man sought by Carson City sheriff's detectives for burglary and using a stolen debit card was taken into custody Saturday and faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, a sheriff's deputy said.

Dozens of military veterans, families and community members saluted the fallen during the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance ceremony at Mills Park Saturday.

The ceremony was presented by the Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

A 35-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday, 6:14 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

American military veterans, families, friends and the community are invited to the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance ceremony this Saturday at Mills Park in Carson City.

Carson City’s newest restaurant-on-wheels, Bus Boy, is holding a grand opening today, Thursday, at Mills Park with a Carson City Chamber event planned from 5 to 7 p.m., and a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled at 5:30 p.m.

They’ll be serving up food from their double decker, 36-foot long, 15-foot tall British icon blue bus throughout the day on Oxoby Loop at Mills Park.
