UPDATE: The 19-year-old bear captured Tuesday in Carson City by wildlife officials has died as a result of a brain tumor after he was tranquilized, with the intention of being released later into the wild, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. With recent bear sightings around Carson City, including Tuesday morning off of Minnesota Street, it is a sure sign that fall has set in as the capital city area is seeing increased bear foraging activity, according to wildlife officials.

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

Heading into Thursday and the final stretch of the work week, it is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area featuring a morning hike along Clear Creek hosted by Muscle Powered, activities at the Carson City Library, western square dancing offered through Carson City Parks and Recreation, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, Ladies' Night Out at Gather, a volunteer information hour and training hosted by Carson City's CASA, a lecture entitled "100 Years Later: The 1919 Transcontinental Military Motor Convoy" featured at the Nevada State Museum, and more.

Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

As we make our way to Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, events around the capital city include a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a Fat Tuesday business networking event, Culinary Traveler’s Club at Bleu Cafe and more.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. CARSON CITY — The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, announces its exhibition, "Constellation" at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public from Sept. 16 to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Heading into Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 we're looking at the cooling trend to continue with mostly sunny skies and a daytime high in the mid-70s. Want to volunteer at the Nevada State Museum? Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

The 2019 Silver State Art Festival is the third annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists and from all over the Southwest. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 at Fuji Exhibit Hall, Park & Pavilion in Carson City.

Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will be closed from September 30th through October 13th and will re-open on October 14th. The facility is getting a front of the museum upgrade with new pavers, picnic tables, and benches.
