Western Nevada College will go to online, remote instruction through end of semester

Western Nevada College will move to remote, online instruction effective March 23, and will continue in this manner for the remainder of the spring semester. Our faculty and staff are working diligently to finalize plans to migrate classes to remote instruction, primarily Canvas.

Carson Tahoe updates screening processes, limits visitation during the Coronavirus outbreak

When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health districts, and other local healthcare providers. In response to the recent declaration of a ‘National State of Emergency’ surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, and in following the CDC’s recommendations for social distancing, we have decided to take additional precautionary measures to reduce the risk of contracting/spreading seasonal illnesses.

Carson City Schools Foundation awards various grants to support students and educators

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

Unless you live under a rock you are certainly aware that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Despite that only 30% of the US population is currently achieving the daily recommended amount of physical activity. You may not be aware though that most fitness centers report losing approximately 50% of their members each year. Elite gyms will attempt to mitigate the loss of their members by offering programs that encourage attendance and a sense of community at their facility, such as group exercise classes. These elite gyms will still see losses of approximately 30% of their members yearly.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.
