The coronavirus isn’t stopping Wild Horse Productions from continuing its theater arts productions and programs and keeping our young actors engaged!

This summer will be different as WHP is replacing its’ in-person summer programming for 2020 with a virtual experience.

Under Phase 2 people are once again able to enjoy working out somewhere other than their living rooms with the re-opening of gyms and fitness centers, and gym owners are stepping up social distancing measures to make sure everyone stays healthy.

In Episode 4 of Carson City Symphony’s Project Euterpe, Conductor David Bugli interviews entertainer Tom Miller. Tom is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, flutist, saxophonist, and luthier (maker of string instruments), among other things. He was featured soloist on the Symphony 35th annual Pops Party Concert at Nevada's Capital Amphitheater last year.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Impact" by artist Paula Chung continues at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery through June 29.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety commissioned the state's newest peace officers Wednesday at the Academy 88 graduation ceremony. The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

On Tuesday, the Carson City Greenhouse Project broke ground on a new outdoor classroom at the Carson High School site, which will allow the Greenhouse Project's dream of continuing agriculture education to students year round in the Carson City community.

This recital was performed in a Carson City home on March 15, 2019, and features Mikhail Bondarev and Ekaterina Belisova, violin; Alexi Popov, viola; and Anton Andreev, cello.

Like millions of college students across the country, Western Nevada College students have faced rapid change as they’ve quickly adjusted to learning remotely. In March, WNC responded immediately to threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carson City’s The Greenhouse Project will be hosting a virtual groundbreaking for their new outdoor classroom in order to provide year-round learning to both Carson High School students and community members alike.

Carson High School is pleased to announce individuals who have excelled in their positions as Educational Support Professionals and have been recognized for their works of merit by their peers and coworkers. The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department announced it is planning on reopening certain recreational facilities under Phase 2, with tentative dates announced for the beginning of June. These dates are all tentative, and may change as additional information becomes available.

Registration is open for a free, online series of classes on Diabetes Self Management that begins on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

What: This 6 week self-management series of workshops was developed at Stanford University and offers anyone living with diabetes — or anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes — the tools and skills to successfully manage their condition.

The Carson City Symphony and its associated ensembles have been entertaining people in the Carson City area for 36 seasons. Because they can't currently perform live, in person, they are producing a series of once-or-twice-weekly video episodes to showcase the talents of their local artists, ensembles, and guest artists.

Patt Quinn-Davis, Carson High School Language Arts teacher and adviser of the school newspaper and Carneta yearbook, is retiring. For Quinn-Davis, the publications staff became a part of her family every year and even more so when students stayed with the program throughout their high school careers.

Members of the community and alumni PHS staff donated a special gift for students at Pioneer High School.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce six high school seniors (four from Carson High School and two from Pioneer High School) who have shown exceptional academic prowess. The valedictorian and salutatorian honors represent the students who have earned the highest and second highest ranks, respectively, among their graduating class.

CARSON CITY — Carson High School Career and Technical Education, Future Health Professionals students, also known as HOSA, competed in the 2020 Virtual Nevada State Leadership Conference hosted April 15 through May 8. More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Since its inception, WNC’s Latino Cohort has provided support to more than 500 Latino students, empowering them to earn their associate degree before pursuing a four-year degree or entering Nevada's workforce.

Carson High School's Future Business Leaders of America claim five State Championships as well as 40 top 10 awards in spite of pandemic. CHS FBLA students just finished competing in the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held in Reno, but had to be held digitally due to Covid-19.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Carson High School’s graduation ceremony plan for the Class of 2020.

Carson High School will hold a drive-through ceremony Saturday, June 6, with varying times throughout the day where graduating seniors and their families will stay in their single vehicle until it's time for the graduate to exit their car, have their name announced on the loudspeaker as they walk across a stage erected on the northwest lawn (near the blue and white concrete ‘CHS’ sign), collect their diploma, have their picture taken, return to their vehicle and then proceed to the exit.

An expansion is underway at Carson City’s own The Greenhouse Project, which will provide more learning opportunities to those who are inclined toward agricultural science.

Western Nevada College has received more than $600,000 in CARES Act Emergency Grant funding for students. CARES Act Emergency Grant funds are designed to assist students with expenses directly related to the disruption of campus operations. Awards will go to students who have completed a FAFSA, met Title IV fund eligibility criteria and were directly impacted by classes going online.

The Carson City School District wishes to thank the William N. Pennington Foundation for their $25,000 grant to be used on a much-needed outdoor classroom and office expansion at The Greenhouse Project’s (TGP) main location at Carson High School.
