Monday mudslide on Carson River Road

Carson Now reader Jeff Kreck provided photos of this mudslide that closed off portions of Carson River Road near Buzzys Ranch following a period of heavy rainfall during a severe thunderstorm. Carson City is under a Small Stream Flood Advisory until 6:45 p.m. tonight. More rain is expected.

Thunderstorm leaves some Carson City streets flooded

UPDATE 4:45PM: An Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory is in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Carson City, according to the National Weather Service. At 4:23 p.m. street flooding from heavy rain and hail earlier this afternoon was subsiding. However, showers and thunderstorms will continue to move into the Carson City area through this evening. Rainfall on saturated soils may lead to additional street flooding along with rapid rises on creeks and drainage ditches.

Slow moving storms prompt Flash Flood Watch for Carson City area

Thunderstorms are moving into the Carson City region, prompting an alert from the National Weather Service in Reno. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City.

Firefighters have also responded to reports of lightning strikes seen in areas south and east of Carson City. As of about 1:30 p.m. Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center said there have been reports of lightning strikes and smoke near Carson River Road and near Stephanie Way but but nothing confirmed as wildfire.

Carson City sheriff's deputies busy with weekend DUI, felony and misdemeanor arrests

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies kept busy over the weekend, making several arrests for DUI, domestic abuse, theft and felony child neglect and drug-related charges. Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Carson City weekend arrests include several felony and misdemeanor-related offenses

The Carson City Sheriff's Office made several felony and misdemeanor arrests over the weekend, many for drug offenses and court warrants.

A 47-year-old Carson City man, Jon Michael Dietmeier, was arrested Friday, 11:07 p.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East by Carson City sheriff's SET officers on felony drug and weapon charges.

Carson City deputies arrest man on weapon and drug charges after shooting near hikers

A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday on felony drug and firearm charges after he allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun near hiking trails, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Jesse Jonathan Sillis-Teran, 26, of Carson City is being held on $27,911 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area of Silver Saddle Road and Carson River Road for a report of shots fired in the area.

Carson City firefighters knock down brush fire off of Carson River Road

Carson CIty firefighters were called Monday night to Sierra Vista at Carson River Road for a small brushfire southeast of Carson City.

According to Carson City dispatch the fire was reported to be about 10 feet by 20 feet in size when firefighters arrived, where they quickly knocked it down. All second responding engines called to the fire were canceled, according to dispatch.

Search continues for armed burglary suspect following Monday night car chase

UPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: The search continues this morning for a man who led Carson City sheriff's deputies on a vehicle chase near the Prison Hill area. Both detectives and deputies continued the search and the investigation overnight and into this morning.

The suspect allegedly broke into two homes, stole several weapons and other property and fled. A woman walked in on the suspect as he was stealing guns from her home and gave authorities a description of the vehicle the man was seen driving.

Trio allegedly squatting in campers on private property face drug-related charges

A 25-year-old Carson City was arrested Nov. 24, 11:01 p.m. He faces felony warrant charges of domestic battery and failure to appear out of Del Norte Superior Court in California. Daniel Glenn is being held on $35,000. He was stopped doing 50 in a 35 mph zone while traveling northbound on Lompa Lane.

In other felony arrests:
A 49-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor charges. James Henry Minor Jr. was arrested Nov. 22, 5:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Airport Road.

Body found in Carson River believed to be Nevada insurance examiner; four in custody

UPDATE: The body of a man believed to be an insurance examiner for Nevada who was reported missing Thursday and whose apartment was ransacked, was found Saturday morning in the Carson River. It was wrapped in a blanket and bound in duct tape, authorities said. An autopsy has been finished.

Four now face murder charges after two of the suspects charges were upgraded. They are Michael Paul Evans, 23, who was found in Carson City early Saturday morning. Three others, two men and one woman, were arrested in Las Vegas and have been cooperating with authorities, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. They are Anthony Elliott, 20; Makyla L. Blackmore, 20 and Raul Garcia, 22. Residential robbery is believed to be the motive, Furlong told KOLO.

Evans was booked into the Carson City Jail and faces charges of murder, murder of an older person, battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and burglary. Bail is $550,000.

According to Sheriff Furlong, during the early morning hours on Saturday, the Carson City Special Enforcement Team coordinated with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and arrested the three, who are expected to be returned to Carson City within the week.

BLM announces adoption of Carson City wild horses; advocates want herd at sanctuary

The Bureau of Land Management will hold an adoption on March 23 for several wild horses recently removed from the outskirts of Carson City. Currently eight wild horses including a mare and foal pair will be available. Meanwhile, advocates for the wild horses say they want the family at a California sanctuary instead of being put up for adoption.

Former corrections guard Vincent Wayne Gilpatrick identified in fatal Carson City motorcycle crash

The name of the motorcycle rider killed in a head-on crash in Carson City on Tuesday has been identified. Vincent Wayne Gilpatrick, 33, of Carson City, died from injuries in the crash, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. A juvenile driving a Jeep Cherokee was taken to the hospital. Gilpatrick was a former corrections guard. His family is from the Ely area.

Accident in Carson City kills motorcyclist

UPDATE 5:30PM: A motorcycle and a vehicle reportedly collided this afternoon in Carson City, killing the motorcyclist. The accident was reported at around 4:50 p.m. at Camballeria Drive and Carson River Road. The accident victim, a man who has not yet been identified, was reported to be "not moving" and Care Flight was called.
The call was cancelled because the motorcyclist died from injuries, according to Carson City emergency personnel at the scene and confirmed by Sheriff Ken Furlong.

2012 Tour of Carson Report

Last Sunday May 6th was Bike Habitat‘s Tour of Carson, an annual event that this year celebrates the shop’s 5th anniversary in business! The Tour of Carson began in 2008 as a way for the shop to say thank you to its customers and the community for their support. The event begins with a 27-30 mile ride around the perimeter of Carson City, and then finishes back at the Bike Habitat for a BBQ.

Names released of couple found in Carson River

Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong released details of the investigation of two bodies found Tuesday in the Carson River near Carson River Road. The victims were identified as Darrell Crossman, 53, and his wife Kelley Crossman, 43.

While the investigation continues, Furlong said that they suspect that one of the victims fell into the frigid water of the Carson River, and the other attempted a rescue, and both were overcome by hypothermia.

Carson City crime log for January 11

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Shelbie Kae Montgomery, 26, a sales associate from Carson City, for gross misdemeanor posession of prescription drugs without a prescription, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Montgomery was arrested at around 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the 4200 block of South Carson Street. Bail is set at $4,100 plus administrative fees.

Not long after this, Carson City Detention inmate Kyle Montgomery Carpenter, 23, was booked on two additional felony warrants in his name for battery with a deadly weapon.

Carson River Park Closed For Construction

On Oct. 20, the Carson City Board of Supervisors awarded a contract to Horizon Construction, Inc. for various improvements to Carson River Park, located on Carson River Road at Lloyd’s Bridge. The construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 7, and will take approximately three months to complete, depending on the weather.

Carson City man arrested for furnishing meth to minor

A Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly had a juvenile female in his vehicle hide 22 grams of methamphetamine in her bra.

According to the arrest report, deputies were in the Carson River Road area checking out a report of a possible homicide. A woman reported that she and her friend were hitchhiking, and ended up at an abandoned house in the area with two male subjects. The woman said she ran away after hearing a gunshot, fearing that her friend had been killed.

Update: Carson City authorities say remains of dead woman will take time to positively identify

The remains of a woman found earlier today near Carson River Road will take some time to identify, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports this afternoon.

Detectives are combing through the area near the Carson River after the body was discovered and reported at 12:54 this afternoon. She was found near the entrance of Silver Saddle Ranch. Furlong said the case is being treated as a homicide for the time being.

Carson City road report through Sunday, Sept. 19

Here is the Carson City road construction report for today through Sunday, Sept. 19.

Koontz Lane continues to be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011 because of work on the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation freeway project.

Russell Way will be closed between Long Street and Northridge Drive from Monday, through Friday, Sept. 17 because of to utility work. Meanwhile, Curry Street will be closed between 6th and 7th Streets on Tuesday and Wednesday because of utility work.

Road report for Sept. 6 - 12

As a result of the next phase of the NDOT project on the freeway, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

There will be lane closures on Carson Street during daytime hours near the intersection of Silver Oak Drive as improvements will be made to that intersection. Minor delays are expected.

The Roop Street widening project is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The following impacts are expected this week:

Carson City area road report for July 12-18

Here are the road construction projects in the Carson City area for Monday, July 12 through Sunday, July 18. Expect some delays and use caution in the construction zones.
The Roop Street widening project will continue this week with the following impacts expected:
— Effective Thursday, July 8, Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from William Street to Robinson Street.  This closure will last through Sept. 1.
—The intersection of Caroline Street and Roop Street will be closed to through traffic through Sept. 1. Traffic may cross Roop Street at Washington Street.

Carson City road report through June 6

Here is the weekly road construction report for the Carson City area, today through June 6:
The Carson City micropaving project continues at various locations. Work will occur daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the following locations over the course of the week, including Sunday, weather permitting.  A single lane will be maintained with flaggers:

— Koontz Lane from Hillview Drive to Center Drive, and from Carson Street to Curry Street.
— Winnie Lane from Ash Canyon Road to Mountain Street.
—  Ormsby Boulevard from King Street to 200 yards north of Washington Street.

Carson City Road Report for week of May 24 through May 30

CARSON CITY — The following information was provided by the Nevada Department of Transportation and applies to the period of May 24 - 30. NDOT will work to add a third northbound lane on US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive.The following activity is expected for this project:

— Work continues with single lane closures on northbound US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Shoulder work will continue during the daytime hours with no impacts to traffic.

Lots of road construction slated for next week

Various road construction projects will be causing delays and closures next week, with some working continuing even longer.
