Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 24-30, 2019. Closures or delays are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire at Sierra Vista and Carson River Road

UPDATE 6:16PM: Sierra Vista Lane is open for traffic in both directions.

UPDATE 5:47PM: Firefighters on scene are mopping up the brush fire on Sierra Vista Lane. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5:25PM: Carson City Fire Department is on scene at a vegetation fire on Sierra Vista Lane. The fire is contained and no structures damaged, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The fire is estimated at 2 acres. Mutual aid was provided by East Fork Fire and Truckee Meadows Fire, they are covering the city while firefighters are battling the blaze. The Carson City Sheriff's Office has closed Sierra Vista at Pinion Hills.

UPDATE 4:57PM: Forward progress of the fire has been stopped, according to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief on scene.

Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire in the Prison Hill area

UPDATE 2PM: The Prison Hill fire has been knocked down. Firefighters are now mopping up. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 1:23PM: Multiple fire crews are on scene working the Prison Hill Fire in southeast Carson City. From the command center it appears the smoke is not as heavy as it was earlier. No word yet on size or containment. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 1PM: A U.S. Forest Service brush unit has also been requested and a helicopter from Minden has also arrived. No word yet as to containment or if any structures are threatened.

UPDATE 12:39PM: At least five brush units from Carson City have been called as well as a brush unit from East Fork Fire Protection District, a brush unit from Central Lyon County Fire and a helicopter. The fire continues to put up a dense amount of smoke.

Prison Hill 5th St Trailhead and Trails Improvement Project

Carson City, Nevada – The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department is in the process of making improvements to the Prison Hill 5th Street Trailhead which is located on the north end of Prison Hill at the corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for DUI and domestic battery

A 38-year-old man was arrested Sunday, 10:53 a.m. in the area of Silver Sage and Briarwood Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs and driving with suspended registration, a sheriff's deputy said.

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 for a moderately difficult one-mile guided hike up Prison Hill to learn about local history and ecology. At the top, enjoy the view while Community Yogi leads beginner yoga! Please wear sturdy shoes for the hike, bring water, and bring a mat if possible. Join our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet in the trailhead parking area at the corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road, entrance on Carson River Road. Water and sturdy closed-toed shoes are required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Tuesday evening hikes begin at 5:30 pm and will be 4-6 miles in length. If it is raining, snowing and/or conditions of trail is not safe, hikes will be cancelled.

Muscle Powered's Saturday Hike to Escape to Prison Hill: The Abridged Version

Meet in the parking area next to the ranch house at Silver Saddle Ranch off of Carson River Road. Please join us for an 8-mile round-trip hike that traverses most of the "Escape from Prison Hill" trail. We will head up Dead Truck Trail, cross over to hike down to the most western end of Prison Hill, turn south and then east to arrive at the highest point of Prison Hill.
