The Youth Strings Program is ready to dazzle you their Spring Fling Concert tonight at the Community Center. Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City will present the 14th Annual Jazz and Beyond Festival, featuring 18 days of music, art and film at multiple venues in the capital city, Aug. 4-21.

The Carson City Library has something in common with the epic spaghetti western ‘The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly’: they are both 50 years old. Celebrate the classic film and our classy library with an afternoon showing of the movie. Join Cherie Shipley at the Brewery Arts Center; the annual ‘Joyful Noise’ Community Holiday Show is full of cheer for all ages. Our high school and middle school student orchestras invite you to their free winter concert at the Community Center this evening. Living the Good Life welcomes singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill back to their stage tonight.

I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Kids won’t want to miss the Santa Train at the State Railroad Museum or one of the two performances of ‘The Peanutcracker’ at the Community Center. Whether you’d like to spend the days indoors or out, there is something for all ages in the Carson City area this weekend.

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 3000 block of Highway 50 East for felony suspicion of being in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill and misdemeanor violation of pre-trial supervision.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Parks and Rec’s Easy Walk is a special trip to Spooner Lake where you’ll get to enjoy the crisp autumn morning in a beautiful setting. Listen to the voices of the past as members of the Washoe Tribe recount stories of their people in their native tongue at the Carson Valley Cultural Center and Museum in Minden. J's Bistro in Dayton hosts a spaghetti feed fundraiser for the Remote Area Medical program. A special lecture on the Sutro Tunnel takes place in Virginia City this evening.

Get ready for an exciting month of music when the 13th annual Jazz & Beyond festival kicks off this weekend with events scheduled for the Bliss Mansion and Silver Saddle Ranch.

Quality of Life Initiative 20th Anniversary Free Concert at Silver Saddle Ranch, Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 3 to 8 p.m.

Carson City Open Space in partnership with the Mile High Jazz Band Association will host four bands, food trucks, and burros to pet at Silver Saddle Ranch located at 4901 Carson River Road.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival. It features 17 days of Music and Art at multiple venues in Carson City, August 5-21.

"Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort," said committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. "Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free."

The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

You can probably take ‘beach day’ off of your agenda. Spring has been briefly usurped by a blustery chill. Grab a coat and hit the town anyway. The early spring farmers market downtown, the Cops and Kids event at the Sheriff’s Department, and the Annual Relay for Life at Mills Park are still a good time. A new exhibit has hit town. Over the weekend, the Nevada Artists Association welcomed new works for its Imagination show. Take a moment and explore all the downtown area galleries: the Community Building by City Hall, the gallery upstairs of in the Courthouse, the Sierra Room in the Community Center, and the walls of the Visitor Center. Grab your cowboy boots and learn to line dance at Carson Lanes. Sassafras welcomes Judith and Rocky to the stage for a jazz jam as fun and funky as their menu.

TUESDAY:

Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Take a gander at the whole list, there is plenty of stuff to do in the Carson City area this weekend.
