Muscle Powered Easy Hike from Mexican Ditch Central to Carson River Road

Meet in the little parking area on Buzzy's Ranch Road, just south of Marsh Road. This area is just south of the parking lot for Riverview Park. The hike is about 3 miles roundtrip, all flat dirt trail. Bring water, a friend, and well-mannered dogs if you wish.

Carson City Sheriff: Fireworks and gunfire at Silver Saddle Ranch part of mounted horse training

The mounted unit of the Carson City Sheriff's Office will be working with horses Friday after sunset and into the evening in which fireworks and gunfire will be used as part of the training, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The event is to help condition the horses to loud noises. The exercise will be held at Silver Saddle Ranch and should be over by 10 p.m.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hikes Program:
A different hike every week. Hikes are 5-7 miles, usually with some elevation gain, of 1 ½ hour + duration.. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and leader may request physician’s release if needed. Happy Thursday, Carson City. If you need a reason to get out of the house, look no further. Learn something new at one of the lectures tonight: Nicholas Clapp, author of ‘Dancing with the Devil: Virginia City’ at the Gold Hill Hotel or head to the Nevada State Museum to learn about the first fabricator of Levi’s jeans, Nevada’s own J.W. Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The talented band students from throughout the district come together tonight at Band-o-Rama in the Carson High School Gym. Read the whole list and find your fun.

Raptors are visible in Carson City, too

The annual Eagles and Agriculture event kicks off this week in the Carson Valley, a wildlife viewing exhibition that attracts hundreds of visitors to the area to see birds of prey feeding and nesting below the eastern slopes of the Carson Range.

But Carson City residents don't have to leave the Eagle Valley to catch glimpses of raptors. We've got them in our own backyards.

Tuesday has arrived and it is starting to feel like autumn. It’s a perfect day to head to Gardnerville’s Corley Ranch for a pumpkin. Get your blood pumping with Carson City’s Parks and Rec. Department on this morning’s Easy Walk at Silver Saddle Ranch. Go dancing tonight and take your pick of line dancing at Carson Lanes or beginning swing dance at El Charro’s. Classic movie buffs won’t want to miss out on a showing of the original Little Shop of Horrors at Red’s Old 395.

Summer days are perfect for a walk in the park, or among any one of Carson City’s many paths. There is the Parks and Recreation easy walk in the morning, or the Muscle Powered Conditioning hike in the afternoon. These happen every Tuesday and the location always varies, so you get the chance to explore various trails in our valley. Get your swing on at Eagle Valley Golf Course. It’s Ladies night, so you get some instruction, a few holes, and refreshment.

Motown and art hit the stage today at the Community Center as part of the ongoing Jazz and Beyond festival. Well, the CCAI art show and sale opens at 5 p.m. in the theater lobby. The Carson Animal Shelter Initiative has a meeting this evening, and there is sure to be a lot to cover. Their major fundraiser, ‘Bark, Whine, and Dine,’ hits Fuji Park on August 29.

A 50-year-old California man arrested Tuesday on suspicion of DUI was found to be in possession of a bag of assorted prescription pills in which he did not have a script, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City sheriff's log: Woman arrested after allegedly stealing jailed man's car and gun

A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday on felony charges of possession of a firearm with altered serial number and grand larceny of a firearm, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Carson City area road report: Closures this week east of downtown for sealing project

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of May 11-17: Due to roadway sealing, there will be road closures throughout the entire week east of downtown in the general vicinity of William Street to the north, Saliman Road to the east, Fifth Street to the south, and Carson Street to the west, as well as along Deer Run Road and Pinon Hills Drive and the neighborhood directly west of Fremont Elementary School.

The Stewart Indian School is the site of today’s ‘Easy Walk’ led by the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department. If you can’t join them this morning, make a point of exploring this treasure on your own. A podcast is available to guide you through the history of the site, complete with narratives from some who spent their youth there. Memorabilia from the school is on display at the Nevada State Museum and plans for a cultural center are in the works. Their cemetery is the final resting place of one of the area’s most famous Native American residents, basket-maker, Dot-so-la Lee. For more information on the Stewart Indian School go here.

Carson City race participant in Prison Hill Challenge found after being reported missing

A runner reported missing in Saturday’s Escape From Prison Hill Challenge was found after becoming lost, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office dispatch.

Carson City Search and Rescue was called Saturday afternoon to the area of Silver Saddle Ranch east of Carson City for the participant who had not checked out after the race. The man’s vehicle remained in the parking area and he had not check out, according to dispatch.

Holiday Open House this Saturday at Silver Saddle Ranch

The annual Holiday Open House at Silver Saddle Ranch is this Saturday. The public is welcome. The open house is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is a great opportunity to become more familiar with this popular venue for hiking, walking, horseback riding, bird-watching, bicycling and climbing.

The historic Red House will be open for tours.
