Update: Carson City authorities say remains of dead woman will take time to positively identify
The remains of a woman found earlier today near Carson River Road will take some time to identify, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports this afternoon.
Detectives are combing through the area near the Carson River after the body was discovered and reported at 12:54 this afternoon. She was found near the entrance of Silver Saddle Ranch. Furlong said the case is being treated as a homicide for the time being.
The remains are of the woman who was found curled up in a fetal position, authorities said. Detectives are at the scene along the officers from the Bureau of Land Management since the body was found on public land. Detectives, additional deputies and reserve deputies are at the scene.
The woman remains are believed to have been there a while and may have been ravaged by wild animals, possibly coyotes. The victim was found to be wearing black sweat pants.
"We are working on identifying her. It will clearly take some time," said Sheriff Furlong.
As far persons reported missing, last November the Nevada Appeal reported a story of a missing woman.
