Partnership Carson City, sheriff's office to provide pizza for New Year's Eve youth gatherings
Youth who are planning New Year’s Eve parties this year are being asked to extend an unusual invitation — to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Working with the Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City, the sheriff’s office is promoting a safe a sober New Year’s Eve for the youth by encouraging school resource officers to monitor parties.
“The way this program will work is any middle or high school student who is at any type of youth gathering on New Year’s Eve can call the non-emergency line for dispatch at (775) 887-2008 and request your school resource officer to stop by,” said Deputy Jarrod Adams. “The SRO will come to your house, or location of the gathering, and meet with the kids.”
The officer will make sure the gathering is drug and alcohol free, then deliver pizzas to the party.
The program is available to all Carson City high and middle school students — private, public, charter and home schools.
“The Safe and Sober New Year’s is designed to promote and encourage a drug and alcohol free gathering for youth,” Adams said. “It also attempts to keep the youth in a safe environment for New Year’s Eve. So invite your school resource officer to your New Year’s Eve party, and they will, in turn, provide pizza for the party.”
