It's Your City: Carson City Supervisor Karen Abowd discusses new downtown Harvest Hub plans
This week's edition of It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer welcomes guest Karen Abowd, Ward 1 Supervisor for Carson City. Among the topics discussed in this Christmas edition is a new project coming to Carson City called the Harvest Hub.
The idea was generated by a group of citizens and nonprofit leaders with a goal to provide a place where local farmers and producers can come to market and provide sustainability components to local nonprofits.
The plan is to provide a "year round farmers market" with fresh products to families who receive food from local nonprofits through Food for Thought, Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Salvation Army, The Greenhouse Project, FISH and Circles Initiative. While the details are still being worked out, the facility will be located at the former Horseshoe Club location at 402 North Carson Street.
The plan would give nonprofits the ability to provide a food facility for cooking classes. The idea behind the Harvest Hub is to educate and train families in areas of healthy food preparation using locally grown ingredients from farmers and producers from around the region.
