Suspect drives into railroad museum switch, flees and caught by Carson City Sheriff's deputies
A suspect involved in a pursuit Thursday faces multiple charges after fleeing the scene of a traffic stop and then driving his car into the Nevada Railroad Museum's railroad turntable ditch, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened just after the noon hour when the Carson City Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic charges at the entrance of the Nevada Railroad Museum on South Carson Street at Fairview Drive.
SET deputies made contact with the driver and passengers who refused to exit the vehicle. The driver fled the area, driving reckless through the parking lot of the museum, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspect vehicle attempted to cross railroad tracks crashing into railroad turntable ditch. The driver, identified as Robert Angel Gonzales, ran from the scene with a handgun in his hand. Robert Angel Gonzales was taken into custody a short distance from the crash. A handgun was also recovered after it had been tossed.
Drugs were located in the man's pocket. He faces charges of suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a peace officer, evading, prohibited person in possession of a handgun, Nevada Parole and Probation violation, resisting a peace officer, along with other traffic charges.
