Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans host free Nov. 2 legal aid fair at community center
Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans, also known as VARN, will host a free legal aid fair at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Volunteer attorneys will be on-site to answer civil legal questions in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, family law, bankruptcy, wills and estates, foreclosure and other real property matters, landlord/tenant issues, debt collection, government benefits, and immigration. The Carson City Community Center is located at 851 E. William St. The fair will be in the Sierra Room and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone with a civil legal issue or question can stop by the community center, and they will have the opportunity to speak to an attorney for free. Bilingual staff will also be available.
VARN has had great success at events like this in the past, last year helping more than one hundred Nevadans navigate the often-complicated legal system, said spokesman Ben Albers in a news release. VARN hosts a legal aid fair every year to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and National Pro Bono Celebration Week.
VARN is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization that provides free civil legal aid to low-income Nevadans in the rural counties. Through VARN’s Domestic Violence Victim’s Assistance Project (DVVAP), they also provide free civil legal assistance to victims of domestic violence.
