Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey hosts it’s monthly meeting virtually via Zoom this Thursday October 8 from 9am-11am. Speakers will address three topics during this month’s meeting.

Building a campus dedicated to aiding, sheltering, nurturing, and educating victims of domestic violence and sexual assault has been the dream of Advocates to End Domestic Violence Executive Director Lisa Lee and her board for the past 25 years.

Nevada Day Parade Awards Announced and, no surprise, Cecil the Serpent takes best overall

One of the many challenges the Nevada Day Committee faces is judging the parade entries, as far as who is the best in which group or category, along with Overall, President, Parade Director, and People’s Choice Awards.

The reason for the difficulty is simple: every parade entry brings their own unique style of artistic expression when it comes to portraying whatever they are truly passionate about, and therefore how do you judge one over the other?

Douglas Sheriff’s Office ‘GitUp Challenge’ video encourages Family Support Council donations

MINDEN — Douglas County Sheriff’s Office put on their cowboy hats, rallied together and took to showing off their “Git Up Challenge” moves producing a video to share across social media platforms.

DCSO’s own take on the viral dance challenge craze was inspired by the Blanco Brown song ‘The Git Up’. Watch the video here.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence celebrates 40 years in Carson City

Numbers speak volumes: 5,443 survivors, 178,393 nights of safe shelter, 3,640 support groups, 21,840 support group attendees.

These are the ways Advocates to End Domestic Violence has been helping Carson City over the last four decades. This year, Advocates is celebrating its 40th year anniversary, and our community is better because of it.

Nevada Day Parade entry winners announced

The Nevada Day Parade Committee has released the winning entries in 10 categories from last Saturday's 80th Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

Today is 'Purple Thursday' in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month's 'Week of Action'

October 14-20 is National Week of Action for October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Thursday is commemorated by wearing purple to show support for survivors of domestic violence, and for ending domestic violence everywhere.

Dodge For the Cause III a totally awesome eighties event in Carson City

Carson City's Advocates to End Domestic Violence receives $20K grant in October campaign

Throughout October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month the Mary Kay Foundation is awarding 150, $20,000 grants to domestic violence shelters nationwide including Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson High CTE, FFA sell floral arrangements for breast cancer and domestic violence awareness

Carson High School Career and Technical Education floriculture students led by agriculture teacher, Charlie Mann, are taking orders for floral arrangements created and sold to benefit local breast cancer and domestic violence charitable organizations. Orders will be accepted through Oct. 12.

Graham's Word: MLB's New Domestic Violence/Child Abuse Policy A Start But Very Weak

Major League Baseball has recently come out with a domestic violence/child abuse policy. While it is a start, the policy is very weak overall. If you read the policy, that fits on one page, you will see that it leaves a lot of doors open and a lot left to be desired. It has no concrete punishments. This policy is basically up to the Commissioner (just like the NFL, and we all know how well that has gone).

Thousands show at Mills Park for Carson City National Night Out 2015

This time last year Carson City experienced a downpour that turned Mills Park into swamp land and forced the last-minute cancellation of National Night Out.

As the Carson City region continues to experience similar and strange weather this summer, the skies threatened a bit but ultimately held out for the 13th annual National Night Out with an astounding community turnout. Carson City deputies make four domestic battery related arrests

A husband and wife were arrested Tuesday and face charges of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and misdemeanor domestic violence charges after an incident inside a Agate Drive home.

Arrested were a 43-year-old woman and 45-year-old man. According to the arrest report, officers were called at 8:05 p.m. to a residence on Agate Drive for a report of a domestic battery in progress.

Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans host free Nov. 2 legal aid fair at community center

Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans, also known as VARN, will host a free legal aid fair at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Volunteer attorneys will be on-site to answer civil legal questions in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, family law, bankruptcy, wills and estates, foreclosure and other real property matters, landlord/tenant issues, debt collection, government benefits, and immigration.
