NCJFCJ observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month by celebrating its 19-year partnership in support of VAWA

(Reno, Nev.) In observation of, October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) continue its mission against domestic violence by celebrating its 19-year partnership with Congress in the historic passing of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

On September 12, NCJFCJ’s Chief Executive Officer, Mari Kay Bickett, JD, joined Vice President Joseph Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, at a reception celebrating the 19th anniversary of VAWA at the Vice President’s Naval Observatory Residence in Washington, D.C.

Domestic Violence Awareness month culminates with Light the Night Oct. 20 at Riverview Park

With October designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Carson City-based Advocates to End Domestic Violence will hold a Light the Night 5K and 10K Walk/Run at Riverview Park on October 20.
This event, a fundraiser for Advocates, is a spinoff of the national Take Back the Night campaign, bringing it closer to home and creating Carson City's own event to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual assault, said Traci Trenoweth, volunteer coordinator for Advocates.

Chamber, Wells Fargo and domestic violence support group team up for Nevada Day raffle

Six lucky people will have a chance to ride in the famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach in this year's Nevada Day Parade in October.
The Carson City Chamber, Wells Fargo Bank, and Advocates to End Domestic Violence have teamed together to offer the memorable Nevada Day experience for six lucky persons who purchase a $5 raffle ticket to ride in the Wells Fargo stagecoach this Nevada Day, Oct. 27. Proceeds of the raffle will go to support the programs of the Advocates.

Nevada Attorney General To Hold Statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Summit

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will hold the first statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Summit in Las Vegas on Friday, bringing together over 120 people from around the state to address the issue of domestic violence deaths in Nevada.
The summit will take place at the Suncoast Hotel Casino, 9090 Alta Drive, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
