Carson City Sheriff's Office identifies two teen suspects in political sign theft
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has identified two suspects allegedly involved in the theft of a political sign last week.
On Oct. 24, 2020 at 9:45 p.m. an unknown color Saturn VUE pulled in front of the residence. A blonde female suspect exited the passenger door and stole a Trump/Pence political sign. The female suspect returned to the vehicle and it left the area.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office acted on a Secret Witness tip that led detectives to speak with two female suspects at this time. One female suspect is 19 years old. A second female suspect is 17 years old, according to a CCSO news release.
This investigation is continuing and the two have been made aware of the seriousness of this offense. Although two suspects have been identified, there are two more suspects involved in this case, according to the sheriff's office.
The theft of an election sign is a gross misdemeanor offense and the elements are covered in Nevada Revised Statute 293.750.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office advises that while the offense may seem a minor one, it carries a penalty that could include one year in a county jail and a fine up to $2,500.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging everyone to remain cordial during these times directly before an election.
