Submitted by Nevada Media Alliance on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 6:02pm
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Marriage equality in Nevada is becoming more and more likely after the state Senate passed Senate Joint Resolution 13 on April 22 with a vote of 12-9.
SJR 13 began as a measure to amend the Nevada Constitution to remove 18 words. The words in question defined marriage as between a man and a woman. They were added as an amendment to Nevada’s constitution in 2002 after Nevadans voted 70 percent to 30 percent in favor of the Protection of Marriage Act.

Bullis and Company CPA Column: Home office deduction is OK
Submitted by editor on Sat, 03/09/2013 - 6:08pmSeveral folks have indicated they have a sole owner business and use a part of their home regularly and exclusively for business use. They have not claimed that deduction because they heard it would cause an IRS audit of their tax return.
Our experience is the deduction is fine, OK to claim. IRS has recently even issued a Revenue Procedure for a “safe harbor” Office in Home deduction. Rev. Proc. 2013-13 offers an optional method of figuring the deduction.

The Hundred Year War On The Economy
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 01/11/2013 - 10:26amSometimes it takes a while to get the big picture, to see things coming into focus. Now, I am not much for conspiracy theories, but if anything looks like it is being driven by design, this is one. The theories driving it were formulated many lifetimes ago. The people whose sick minds spawned them are long dead. For the life of me I do not understand how any egomaniac could possibly get his jollies from a trend he might have started but maybe not even his great-grandson might see coming to fruition. But there it is, a hundred year timeline on several fronts.

Nearly 1.3 million Nevadans are registered to vote

The increase in active voter registration totals since the close of registration for the Nov. 6 general election is due in large part to the number of inactive voters who cast ballots and automatically became active voters according to federal and state law.

December 1, 2012 (All day) The City of Reno seems to be dropping the ball when it comes to adhering to their side of the agreement with the owners of the Reno Aces.
In a letter dated November 28th 2012 written to the Mayor of Reno Robert Cashell from the President of Triple-A Baseball Branch E. Rickey, President Rickey tells a damning story of what Reno has failed to do to. ....and deservedly so!
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 11/23/2012 - 3:20pmAs a classical conservative and former broadcaster, I am always highly amused when I hear the extreme right wing commentators who proudly claim and boast of their ratings dominance throughout the spectrum of modern media. The structural core of their argument is that the “ratings” reflect the mood of America.
Unfortunately, those who are incapable of thinking for themselves and rely on these outlets for their political information, and who kneel in complete supplication at their altars, do so at their own peril. But,then again, there is no known cure for willful ignorance.

Why Harry Reid, Dean Heller may get along in the Senate
Submitted by editor on Sun, 11/18/2012 - 1:34pmSens. Harry Reid and John Ensign had a famous non-aggression pact. Sens. Reid and Dean Heller? Well, at least they’ve had breakfast together.
Now that the election is over, one of the biggest questions for Nevada is what the Reid-Heller relationship will look like.
For the past 18 months, it hasn’t been pretty.
When Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley was challenging Heller to represent Nevada in the Senate, Reid used the strength of his majority leadership to strike at Heller, who was serving out the rest of Ensign’s term.
Heller positions himself to help broker immigration reform
Submitted by editor on Thu, 11/15/2012 - 8:11amAfter watching their candidates lose the presidency, the 4th Congressional District, and barely eke out a win in the Senate race on Election Day, Nevada Republicans were wringing their hands.
They had scored near-record turnout of their base, particularly in the rural counties, which swing heavily Republican. But they had been decimated at the polls among minority voters, especially Latino voters.
Analysis: Has Nevada gone blue?
Submitted by editor on Sun, 11/11/2012 - 11:22amRest easy, Nevada. We’re still a battleground state. At least so say political operatives on both sides of the aisle.
Admittedly, they may have a bit of a vested interest in saying so. Presidential battleground status opens the spigot to tens of millions of advertising dollars.
By the last count compiled by The Washington Post, $54 million was spent on Nevada airwaves to influence the presidential election here this year — that’s about $53 per vote cast here.
