Carson City man jailed after fleeing crash, leaving ID behind
A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested for felony destruction of property, two counts hit and run and other charges after fleeing the scene of a crash that happened Monday night at a West Robinson Street residence, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Gerson Meza was taken into custody at 7:46 p.m. at a Florentine Drive residence. He also faces a felony parole and probation violation charge as well as driving without a valid license and no proof of insurance.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 6:34 p.m. to the 800 block of West Robinson Street for a vehicle that crashed into a parked vehicle and then into a fence. A deputy arrived on scene to investigate and advised there was approximately $30,000 in property damage at the residence.
The deputy further advised an identification card with an address in the 3100 block of Florentine Drive was inside the crashed vehicle, a white BMW. Deputies went to the address to make contact with the suspect driver that fled the scene of the crash.
As they arrived a Jeep pulled into the driveway of the residence, with Meza getting out of the vehicle and identifying himself. Dispatch advised Meza does not have a valid license and that the vehicle had no current proof of insurance.
Meza told deputies was driving the BMW, saying the brakes locked up and he lost control of the vehicle. He said he crashed the vehicle into the West Robinson Street residence and panicked and didn’t know what to do so he left the scene of the crash on foot and was later picked up by friends.
Meza was arrested for two counts misdemeanor hit and run, felony destruction of property over $5,000, driving without a valid driver’s license and not having proof of insurance. Dispatch further advised he is on Parole and Probation, which the agency advised they would be placing a felony hold on him. Bail: $7,173.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in locating an armed robbery suspect.
On Monday Oct. 22, at approximately 3:30 p.m. an armed robbery occurred at Fruitilandia, a frozen yogurt shop at 3217 Highway 50 East in Carson City.
An unknown white or Hispanic male adult pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded cash and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A witness followed the suspect as he ran south from the business. The suspect pointed the firearm at the witness.
The suspect then drove away in an older white Oldsmobile Cutlass. A short time later another witness observed the Oldsmobile park on the 1300 block of Green Court in Carson City.
The suspect was seen walking away from the vehicle toward Menlo Drive. The Oldsmobile was reported stolen from South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
The suspect was described as a young adult white or Hispanic male, thin with a pock marked or scabbed face. The suspect had a shaved head and he was wearing a Raider’s jersey. The suspect was pulling a red wheeled suitcase or duffel bag.
