Carson City arrests: Drugs, dangerous weapon found during traffic stop investigation
Three were arrested early Sunday in the area of North Carson and Fleischmann Way following a traffic stop, which led to an investigation and the recovery of drugs and paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report said.
Brian Keith Neill, of Reno, Nicholas Ryan Norris and Mariah Lynn Minor, both of Sun Valley, were taken into custody following an investigation where drugs, paraphernalia and a dangerous weapon were found following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation.
Neil, 21, was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a dangerous weapon, both felonies; gross misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia; and misdemeanor basic speeding, no proof of insurance and no proof of registration.
Minor, 27, was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony and gross misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia. Norris, 29, was arrested for suspicion of parole and probation violation.
According to the arrest report, shortly before 4 a.m. a deputy observed a vehicle speeding, 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on North Carson Street. The deputy made a traffic stop. The driver was unable to provide the deputy with a copy of the vehicle's registration and insurance, the arrest report states.
The driver appeared nervous and the female, Minor, answered questions for the man. The deputy provided a records check on the subjects and learned Norris was on parole and probation. Norris was removed from the vehicle for questioning. He admitted to using meth 5 months prior and said he has not since, the report states.
The deputy returned to the driver, and asked for consent to search the vehicle for narcotics. The man reached into his pocket in an attempt to conceal something. The officer removed him from the vehicle, checked him for weapons and located a collapsible metal baton, the report states.
The woman was subsequently removed from the vehicle. As the vehicle was being prepared for a tow, deputies located a hypodermic needle device, containing a brown fluid substance in a makeup pouch in a purse sitting on the right front seat near the woman. The woman was detained. She then shouted something about wanting to explain why, she said, there was a "kit" in her car. The officer arrested her for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
Additional evidence found, was suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia in the trunk of the vehicle. A black backpack, belonging to Neill, contained numerous articles of drug paraphernalia, a methamphetamine pipe and white crystal, which was identified as methamphetamine, the report states.
The Department of Parole and probation requested Norris be arrested for suspicion of violation of parole and probation. Total bail amount listed for Neill: $7,041. Total bail amount listed for Minor: $3,637. Norris was held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
