Gang-shooting investigation continues; Carson City man faces drugs, weapon charges
A Carson City man, who may have been involved in a gang-related shooting last week, faces drug and weapons charges after a search of his home on Thursday night.
Rigoberto Vega-Aguilar, 29, is being held in the Carson City jail on $11,864 bond. Eight people have been arrested in connection with the Aug. 14 shooting in an apartment complex in the area of Lompa Lane and Menlo Drive.
According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a search warrant was served in the 1800 block of North Edmonds at the home of Vega-Aguilar in connection to the gang shooting last Saturday. Based on that ongoing investigation, the search warrant for him was sought to look for firearms and any ammunition.
On arrival officers met with Vega-Aguilar and he was detained in handcuffs. The arresting officer confirmed with Vega-Aguilar that he was the renter at 1810 North Edmonds and was on the rental agreement with the property owner. During the search of the apartment, officers found marijuana and marijuana pipes in the kitchen and living room, according to the arrest report.
In a drawer in the bathroom kitchen sink officers found a glass methamphetamine pipe with white residue in the pipe, which test positive for the drug. Also in the drawer was a homemade plastic pipe which appeared to be used to smoke meth, and a prescription pill identified as Hydrocodone, also a controlled substance. Next to the pipes was a money clip with money and Vega-Aguilar's identification and bank card, according to the arrest report.
On the bathroom floor in front of the toilet was a pair of blue jeans where a deputy found a small .22 caliber revolver loaded with five .22 caliber bullets in the pocket of the jeans, according to the report. When officers entered Vega-Aguilar apartment, for which he lives alone, they found numerous pieces of gang indicia and paraphernalia, the arrest report stated.
Vega-Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for the methamphetamine and Hydrocondone, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to jail and booked. A check of his immigration status showed an ongoing immigration deportation case, according to the arrest report.
