Carson City man jailed for alleged domestic battery with strangulation, meth possession

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation and drug possession with intent to sell among other alleged offenses.

Pedro Meza-Martinez was booked into custody at 6:30 a.m. He also faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, deputies were sent to the 800 block of South Carson Street for a report of a woman screaming and sounds that she was being choked.

Deputies arrived and knocked on the door and spoke with the victim, and made contact with the suspect, who later came outside to speak. While speaking with the victim, the officer observed her crying, shaking, and trying to fix her broken glasses. The deputy asked how how her glasses were broken and the woman said she stepped on them and broke them. She advised the man hadn't done anything to her, the report states.

Officers observed a small cut on the left side of her neck and what appeared to be finger marks on the right side of her neck. The woman said she wanted to kill herself and picked up a knife and held it to her throat and later choked herself, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked to show how she attempted this. The woman put both hands on her neck. The deputy told the woman the injuries to her neck were not consistent with what she told the officer. The investigation continued.

A CCSO captain, who arrived on scene, conducted a protection sweep of the hotel room and observed a pipe on the chair in a room. A deputy went inside the hotel room and saw zip loc baggies in plain view with suspected methamphetamine.

The officer advised the male suspect of his Miranda rights which he said he understood. When asked if he was willing to speak, he said "there's not much to say." The man told deputies he and the woman were arguing but that it never turned physical, the report states.

He then told officers that he grabbed the woman by the throat because she would not allow him to leave. A deputy asked the man how hard he squeezed her throat. The man replied "not hard enough," the report states. He was asked to elaborate. The man said "not hard enough to do any damage" adding that the woman punched him in the face with a closed fist prior to him choking her.

The deputy asked the male suspect about the drugs, which were also found on the stove and drug packaging, in which he replied the drugs were not his, saying the woman was selling drugs to help make ends meet due to them being on hard times. The woman was asked earlier about the drugs, in which she said they were not hers and that her mother had died from using drugs, the report states.

At that point the man said he wanted to speak with an attorney. The bag of suspected methamphetamine in a ziplock bag had several large "rocks" of meth and several other smaller baggies inside that appeared to be equally measured, the arrest report states.

Meza-Martinez was arrested for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail amount listed: $23,637.

Audra Elayne Combs was taken into custody in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East. According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched Tuesday to the CCSO administration building to investigate a court order violation.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with the reporting party who explained he had applied for and was granted an extended protection order against Combs, his ex-girlfriend. The order was confirmed and had been served.

The reporting party said he had received numerous emails from the suspect's email account, including a photograph of the man in what appeared to be a made up news article where he was accused of a sexual offense against a minor, the booking report states. Included was a message requesting that the reporting party "start being a decent man and tell the truth."

The reporting party said he believed the woman had fabricated the news article and had included it in the email to his new girlfriend with the intent to defame or discredit his character. The victim also provided other emails from the suspect, the arrest report states.

Officers responded to the 3200 block of Highway 50 East and met with the suspect, who immediately asked if they were there to talk about the reporting party. An officer replied they were.

The suspect stated the reporting party had been sending her harassing emails and text messages so she responded back because, she said, she was tired of him harassing her. The officer asked how she had contacted the man. She stated she sent him an email, according to the arrest report.

At 6:28 p.m. the suspect was arrested for suspicion of violation of an extended order against stalking and harassing. Bail: $10,000.
