Carson City arrests: Man jailed for suspicion of third DUI
A Carson City man was arrested Tuesday evening for suspicion of felony third DUI, according a Carson City sheriff's deputy report.
Kevin Wayne Boss was taken into custody at 11:15 p.m. He also faces a charge of misdemeanor following too close. The arrest came after deputies were called to a vehicle accident Tuesday at 9:26 p.m.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a vehicle accident in the area of William Street and Russell Way. Officers arrived and observed Boss was at first unconscious but then woke up, the report states.
A deputy made contact with the man and could smell an odor of alcohol on his breath. The deputy asked the man if he had been drinking and he replied "oh yeah" stating he had no idea what was going on, the report states.
The air bags to the man's vehicle were deployed. Carson City Fire Department arrived on scene and advised they would transport the man to the hospital for further evaluation. Because he was going to the hospital, the vehicle airbags deploying and the unknown severity to his injuries, standardized field sobriety tests were not performed, the report states.
At the hospital the officer asked the man questions from the SFST question sheet. The man advised he has hearing loss and has been having issues with his eyes. He refused to provide a preliminary breath sample, the report states.
The officer read the man the request for voluntary evidence. The man initially stated "what difference does it make." And then after a brief explanation of the request, he agreed to provide a voluntary sample. While waiting for a phlebotomist, and without being asked, the man stated he "messed up" and knows he has an alcohol problem and had the intention of going to alcohol rehabilitation, the report states.
Deputies reviewed the man's criminal history, which showed he was previously convicted of DUI second offense in 2014 in Douglas County. After he was medically cleared from the hospital he was taken to jail for suspicion of DUI third offense. Bail: $20,137.
— Two people, Katie Sardella and Shawn McDougall, both inmates at Carson City Jail, were booked Tuesday, 12:20 p.m. for felony warrants issued out of Dayton Township Justice Court. Bail: $85,000 each. The warrants were issued August 7, 2019.

Deputies opened the cell door in which the man became verbally abusive, yelling obscenities at jail staff, and then spit into his hands and threw saliva at an officer, hitting him in the arm and mid section of their uniform. The man then continued to spit out of the cell hatch at other deputies who were standing by. Bail: $1,137.
