Carson City School Board to further discuss $5.7 million purchase of church complex after first bid rejected
The Carson City School District will hold its next School Board meeting on Tuesday, July 23 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with the adoption of agenda.
A discussion and possible authorization will be held in reference to purchasing the old Capital Christian Center campus on Snyder Avenue. The board may authorize the Superintendent to negotiate a non-binding letter of intent for the possible purchase for an amount not to exceed $5,670,000.
The original proposed amount was for $5.5 million. However, the current owners of the complex decided they wanted an additional $170,000 in order to cover the commission of the agent.
Now, the Board will discuss authorizing Superintendent Richard Stokes to offer a bid of $5,670,000 to purchase the complex.
A discussion and possible action on a resolution regarding the financing of school improvements will be held, directing the director of fiscal services to notify the Carson City Debt Management Commission of the proposal to issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $40 million.
A second reading and possible adoption of proposed changes to the Search and Seizure policy will be held, along with the proposed elimination of workers compensation and industrial compensation, which would be replaced with a policy that contained workers compensation and occupational injury or disease.
In addition, a second reading and possible adoption will be held regarding changes to the drug and alcohol use/abuse policy and lesson plans.
A first reading will be held regarding proposed policy 218, Internet Safety and Internet Acceptable Use.
A discussion and possible action will be held regarding the Nevada Association of School Boards Nominations to be considered for recognition during the 2019 annual conference.
