Carson Tahoe Health welcomes community to attend child abuse and neglect symposium
Carson Tahoe Health is hosting a “Child Abuse and Neglect Symposium” on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. to help shed light on the signs of child abuse or neglect, and what can be done to help in our community.
“We’re pleased to be offering this unique opportunity to both educate and empower our community to come together in support of our local children who may be suffering from abuse or neglect,” said Ed Epperson, President & CEO of Carson Tahoe Health. “Recognizing the signs isn’t always easy, and understanding the best approaches to help those children in need is crucial to keeping them safe, healthy, and happy.”
A line up of guest speakers are scheduled for the event, including:
• Special Master Kimberly Okezie of Juvenile Court, who will give an update on the state of child abuse and neglect in our community.
• Molly Blanchette, MSW, LSW, DCFS Supervisor, who will discuss mandatory reporting, recognizing the signs of abuse or neglect and what can be done to help.
• Michael J. Luque, MSW, LSW from the University of Nevada School of Social Work, who will discuss how substance abuse can affect parenting and potentially lead to abuse or neglect.
• Chris Bayer, Director of CASA Carson City and Lori Nichols, DCFS Foster Home Recruiter, who will discuss how you can make a positive difference and help.
The symposium will be held at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center’s Valley View Room, located at 1600 Medical Parkway in Carson City.
A meet and greet will open the symposium, with a Q&A to conclude the event. Refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public, however registration is required online at www.CarsonTahoe.com/wellness. For more information, please call (775) 445-5169.
