Carson City sheriff's log: Drug related arrests make up bulk of Friday bookings

A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue on felony drug possession charges, a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was called to the area of Rand Avenue for a report of drug activity. Taken into custody was Erik Robert Compton.

According to the arrest report, a deputy advised the SET officer they he had responded on a welfare check of Compton and his 2-year-old son. The deputy said he made contact with Compton at the apartment. The man told the officer that his son was at a baby sitters on Fifth Street. The deputy stated the boy was actually with the apartment manager due to other tenants finding the child with Compton who was passed out.

When the officer spoke with Compton he noticed the man was having a hard time maintaining focus and appeared to be falling asleep. The officer looked at the man’s eyes and noticed the pupils were constricted to pinpoints, signs of the man being under the influence of opiates.

The officer read the man his Miranda rights and he said he understood those rights. The officer asked the man if they could search his room for anything he he wasn’t supposed to have. The man said the officer could. Inside the apartment the officer noticed a small shelf next to the bed. On a shelf was a pill bottle with multi-colored tape on it. The officer opened the bottle and noticed several small tied pieces of balloons. The officer recognized the odor of unburnt heroin emanating from the bottle. The substance in one of the balloons was tested showing presumptive positive for the presence of heroin.

The officer also noticed that some of the balloons were empty. Next to the pill bottle the officer found a small white metal screw top pill container. Inside the container was a small blue pill in a baggie. The pill was identified as Alprazolam. On a shelf in the bathroom the officer located a hypodermic needle. Compton was arrested on suspicion of possession a a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and for chid neglect. Bail: $8,637.

According to the arrest report, officers were at the location regarding video surveillance of a possible drug deal that occurred on the north side of the building involving Woomer, the arrest report states.

A tenant gave deputies permission for a K9 sniff of the apartment. The dog alerted to a black backpack. Inside the officer found female clothing, makeup and a plastic baggie and two hypodermic needles and a silver spoon with a testable amount of white residue on it.

Woomer admitted without asking that the bag belonged to her and admitted that it was her needles and spoon in the bag. She told the officer the substance in the baggie was epson bath salts. When they went to check they saw several hypodermic needles on the floor and tin foil with “black streams on them,” the arrest report states.
