Carson City arrests: Man jailed for taking phone from domestic battery victim calling for help
A 41-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning for suspicion of preventing a victim of domestic battery from calling for help, a felony, and other charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Xavier Edmundo Muzquiz of Carson City was taken into custody at 3:07 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Carson Street. He also faces charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and violation of pre-trial conditions.
According to the arrest report, the man became physical with the pregnant female victim, allegedly pulling out her hair and then holding her clothing as she attempted to get free from the man. The deputy observed the area of her scalp where a "large clump of hair easily came off her scalp" as she showed the officer the injury.
Deputies learned the man then prevented her from leaving their Imperial Way apartment, pulling on her undergarments with such a force that the middle part was ripped in half, the arrest report states. The man also allegedly took the victim's phone from her as she attempted to call dispatch for help, the report states.
The suspect was located in the parking lot of a motel in the 1300 block of North Carson Street. He told a deputy that the argument between him and the victim never became violent. The man was visibly intoxicated and submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .133.
Muzquiz is on Alternative Sentencing with a "no alcohol" clause, the arrest report states. He was booked for felony suspicion of interfering with the victim, not allowing her to call for help, domestic battery and violation of pre-trial conditions set through the department of alternative sentencing. Bail: $11,137.
