Carson City arrests: Man with warrant jailed for giving officer fake name to avoid arrest
A 33-year-old Carson City man was taken into custody Tuesday for a felony warrant and, subsequently, providing false information to avoid being arrested for the warrant, a sheriff's deputy said.
Lance Robert Stewart was taken into custody at 7:38 p.m. at a Clear Creek Avenue address.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the area for a welfare check on an elderly woman who had told her mobile home park manager that two people were living at her residence who failed to pay rent.
The officer spoke with the older woman who lived at the residence. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned the two people, a man and woman, were inside the residence. The two were escorted to the front porch and read their Miranda rights. Both agreed to speak.
The woman provided a driver's license and the man said his wallet was stolen and he doesn't have an ID with him. The deputy asked for the man's name, he provided a name which turned out to be false. The deputy was able to obtain the identity of the man by other means and ran his name through dispatch which showed he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Walker River Justice Court and a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant out of Sparks.
He was arrested for the warrants and for allegedly providing the deputy with a false name to avoid being arrested. Bail: $36,245.
