Carson City man accused of domestic battery, taking phone from victim
A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for multiple offenses including alleged domestic battery, resisting arrest with violence and preventing a victim from calling for help, a sheriff's arrest report states.
Tyrell Thomas was taken into custody at 10:37 p.m. in the 1000 block of Roop Street. He was arrested for suspicion of felony dissuading a victim, gross misdemeanor second offense domestic battery, resisting a public officer with violence, also a gross misdemeanor, and two failure to appear warrants out of Lyon County.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a residence and learned the suspect had taken the victim's cell phone so she could not call 911.
Dispatch advised the victim was at a neighbor's residence and stated the victim may have suffered a broken jaw and that the suspect had a history of obstructing law enforcement, the arrest report states.
Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to detain the suspect who resisted arrest and would not comply with commands, the report states.
Upon further investigation, it was learned the suspect was upset with the victim, his girlfriend, who borrowed his car earlier, according to the report. The suspect allegedly turned off the victim's phone wi-fi so she couldn't access it to call 911, and then took the phone away from her.
The suspect was found with two cell phones belonging to the victim on his person at the time of the arrest, according to the report.
The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries to the right side of her face after she had been punched multiple times. Deputies conducted a wants and warrant check on the suspect and learned he had two warrants out of Lyon County. His previous history revealed a prior domestic battery conviction in November 2018.
