Carson City man faces felony domestic violence charges

A Carson City man faces a felony domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting his girlfriend in the face with a cup in front of their 5-year-old daughter, grabbing the woman by the throat and preventing her their from leaving the home.

Justin Thomas Keeney, 33, was arrested Thursday, April 28, in the 900 block of Saliman Road. Bail was set at $27,500.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the couple's home after a domestic battery report. The victim called police and stated her boyfriend, Keeney, beat her. The couple have two daughters, a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old.

According to the arrest report the victim was home at around 7 p.m. making dinner with Keeney. One daughter was sleeping in her bedroom and and the 5-year-old was in the kitchen. The victim said an argument started because dinner was not prepared the right way he liked it and accused her of seeing other men. The woman stated their relationship has been troubled recently.

The argument became heated and that's when Keeney picked a cup out of the sink and struck the woman in the face with it, the arrest report stated. Officers reported a slight abrasion on the woman's face. When the woman began to yell at her boyfriend to stop, he allegedly grabbed her throat with his right hand and held it to the point where she couldn't breath, the arrest report stated. There were finger marks on both sides of her neck, consistent with her account, the report added.

The abuse happened as the 5-year-old watched, with the daughter asking Keeney to take her to the park so the fight would stop, the report states. The woman then grabbed the daughter and ran to the bedroom to dress the children and then planned to exit the home. While the woman was in the bedroom she stated Keeney slammed and pounded the kitchen countertop.

The victim also stated it was her intention to leave the apartment and call 911 because she did not have access to a phone. She took both of her children to the front door. That's when Keeney stopped the woman, pushed the door closed as she tried open it and then locked the deadbolt, the report states. The victim told authorities she tried to open the door, but Keeney grabbed her arm and pushed her away. There were marks on her arms consistent with being grabbed, the arrest report states.

The victim was able to escape with her children and went to the manager's apartment to call 911. Keeney stated that he was drunk and only admitted to slamming the counter. He did not claim any injuries, the report states. He faces charges of domestic battery by strangulation, a felony, preventing or dissauding a witness from reporting a crime, a felony, and gross misdemeanor child endangerment.

In other arrests:

— An intoxicated Carson City man, who apparently challenged casino security guards to a fight at 6 in the morning, faces a felony parole and probation violation charge.

Duane Edward Fielder, 51, was arrested at 6:12 a.m. on April 29 because of a no alcohol clause he agreed to while under supervision of the parole and probation department. Security officers at the casino, located in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive, said he was intoxicated, causing a disturbance and challenging security to a fight.

When asked what happened, Fielder told authorities "they cut me off" but that everything was OK and that he just wanted to get something to eat. He told the officer he had three beers and agreed to a PBT sample which showed a breath alcohol content of 0.158.

— A Carson City man faces a felony parole and probation violation charge after he was seen associating with motorcycle clubs and gangs.

Deputies working as the Tri County Gang Unit on April 28 observed Larry Arnold, 34, consorting with motorcycle gang and club members in front of a restaurant on Retail Way in Carson City. He had been driving a white Harley Davidson, the arrest report states.

Arnold had been advised by his parole officer several months prior not to associate with motorcycle clubs or gangs, the arrest report stated. He was arrested and faces the felony charge and a misdemeanor handlebar height violation. He was respectful and cooperative when taken into custody, the arrest report concluded.

— A Carson City man was arrested April 27 inside the Carson City Library and faces a felony charge of parole violation. Justin Joseph Simon, 23, was seen inside the library and once detected by officers, moved to the children's section attempting to look for an exit. The arresting officer said his name, grabbed him by the arm and cuffed him. He faces the parole and probation violation charge and a misdemeanor failure to appear charge.

— A Carson City woman was arrested April 27 on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Arizona. Amy Childress, 27, who also goes by the name of Amy Green, was at the Carson City Jail at the time authorities learned of the Arizona charge, which, according to the report, she was to be extradited.

— A Carson City woman faces a charge of felony witness intimidation after allegedly arguing with police and resisting arrest.

Nancy Morris, 42, was arrested in the 2400 block of Woodcrest Drive on April 23.
According to the arrest report, deputies were investigating a domestic battery dispute involving her son and a female victim. Morris allegedly stepped outside her home and began demanding the victim not speak with authorities, the report stated.

She was told several times to go back inside and to stop interfering, the arrest report stated.

Once inside, the woman reportedly texted the victim's cell phone, telling her not to speak or listen to deputies and that she and her boyfriend had "enough troubles" as it is, the report stated.

The suspect then came back outside with a jacket, claiming it belonged to the victim, which it didn't and approached the officers, the arrest report stated. Morris was told to go back across the street but she refused directives, the report stated. She was arrested after a short struggle with police, transported and booked into jail.

She faces charges of intimidating a witness, a felony, obstructing and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
